Awful batting performance from England, looks like Australia will retain the Ashes unless England can dismiss them for a similar score.

How much longer does Root have as captain, and is there anyone who warrants replacing him in the team?
Can't see how he can stay on after this series, as with when Cook was skipper, his form as a batsman is more important to the team than his captain abilities.
If it were up to me, I'd give the captaincy to (don't laugh at me) Broad at this moment in time. Whilst I don't think that bowlers make great skippers, I just do not see how you could justify giving it to any of the top 7, when not one of them other than perhaps Stokes should really be sure of their place. Reckon they've got Buttler lined up for it though personally.

Are we doing a sweepstake as to when Archer is going to break down due to overuse? Aaaaaaaaaaand there we go

I see we've got to the fantasy selection stage of Ashes mourning. Well, I'm going to take the other lesson from our one day team - we tried 'talent and confidence and attacking cricket' and it didn't work in the red ball stuff, so I'm going to try 'pick people who specialise in the format' instead. Feels like after so many years of picking test players in ODIs we've now gone the other way, so here's the balance redressed.
1. Burns 2. Sibley 3. Northeast or Ballance (probably former) 4. Root 5. Stokes 6. A supremely talented biffer (Pope or Roy or Bairstow or Buttler) 7. Foakes
Then one strike bowler (Archer, Wood, Stone, Joverton), two line bowlers (Anderson, Broad, Woakes, TRJ, Scurran, Gregory) and one spinner (Leach or Ali) with a bit of flexibility based on conditions.
The problem we have is that we keep trying to find a way to field three or four sixes and sevens and it just doesn't quite work, especially at home.
Hopefully we make a respectable fist of the chase we're about to start but it feels like 100 too many to be interesting

Agree with that team nemo. I sincerely hope that we actually make changes since they’re so obviously needed and the series is lost but fully expecting a disappointingly similar team with 1-2 changes at most and Roy still involved...

Goodness me that's a dreadful lbw call. Thank god for DRS.
Wasn't even Joel Wilson!
Denly and Root digging in perfectly here. Not quite too little too late, but certainly not ideal timing.

Of all the great things Stokesy has done this summer, I'm probably most impressed with this 2 off 50. Would be fab if he could finish tomorrow 20 not out.

MotM should have been Joel Wilson.

I mean.....that LBW decision was one of the worst i've EVER seen, but you burn your DRS on stupid ass reviews and you can only blame yourself.

Imagine how different this summer would've been had Ben Stokes not been acquitted...

Goodness me. I was playing yesterday, we stopped for the last 30 runs to watch the TV. What a mad half hour.
