Aus bowling like Broaderson of the past 5 years, nothing at the stumps and England looking comfortable as a result Fuck me Williams, stop posting stuff like this. That was even quicker than Pope's dismissal t'other day.

They mentioned earlier on TMS that Roy and Burns have had 9 first class innings opening together, averaging 9 with a high of 22. So that 10 was above par... Hopefully we'll finally bump Roy down now

Hopefully we'll finally bump Roy down now Should Roy be bumped down though? I mean what has he ever done to warrant a place in the England batting line up other than score great runs at opener in white ball cricket? Tough one for the ECB with Denly on a knife edge too, would almost be like having to admit they cocked up hugely by selecting them both if they both get jettisoned in quick succession

Well......that's Root back to 4 for the next test, out of form or no, he's our only top batsman and he needs to be batting where he wants

If we persist with this quartet, should be Burns, Denly, Roy, Root. But yeah as you say, Roy being there at all should be questioned much more than it is. I see more people moaning about Denly than Roy on twitter but Denly at least seems willing to bat time early on and has managed a few decent partnerships with Burns.
Do we have any good number 3s in the country? I noticed Sam Curran played 3 for Surrey this week...

There is one lad, who averages 48 in county cricket, and 38 in tests (more than Burns, Roy, Denly, Stokes, Buttler or Bairstow btw) and bats at 3 quite a bit, but he has been written off for years. FWIW I would leave him at Yorks, we can't afford to lose him....
As well as the 1-2-3 conundrum, a question which needs answering for me, is can England justify Buttler and Bairstow in the same team if they both continue to average mid 30s in tests, with someone like Pope, who could potentially be a world class 5 or 6 waiting in the wings?

Or play an opener at 3. Granted, don’t have many of them either... Somerset’s Davies?

2019 County Championship Division One XI
Dom Sibley (949 runs at 56) Alastair Cook (742 runs at 44) Gary Ballance (911 runs at 54) Sam Northeast (853 runs at 57) Ollie Pope (294 runs at 147) Liam Dawson (356 runs at 51, 6 wkts at 82) Tom Banton (480 runs at 37) (k) Lewis Gregory (363 runs at 30, 44 wkts at 14) COverton (32 wkts at 21) JOverton (26 wkts at 19) Amar Virdi (17 wkts at 13)
Decimates the Somerset attack, but is this better than the England team? *Root, Denly, Leach would get in this team on their CC averages too but wanted to pick an entirely different team

A 4th horrible horrible dismissal.
I'd honestly take Sibley with Burns, Ballance @ 3, Pope @ 5 from that team WAP. Root back to 4, Stokes at 6 with only one of Buttler or Bairstow.
I'd certainly take Archer, Broad, Leach and Anderson 8-11
