They’re bringing the previous batch of Dukes back for the Ashes. Splendid.
Jofra for the Ashes anybody?

I'd be astonished if he didn't make an appearance (baring injury).
Also, Sam Northeast? 5 matches, 575 runs @ 71.87 so far. Leading Division 1 run scorer.

I’m going to include the WAshes in here as well because why not. Australia win the toss and bowl in the first ODI.
Lauren Winfield misses out to pretty much no-one’s dismay. Elysse Perry is uninjured to an entire nation’s.

Others would say they’ve started like utter shite.

Looked like a fun game that in the end, only saw the scorecard afterwards but hoping to see a few of the later games in this series. May even try and take the wife along for my continued efforts to sell cricket using feminism (it's worked fairly well for T20, but she does get bored with anything longer unless she can take knitting).
As for the now not entirely distant Mashes, some serious hands being raised in the County Championship for spots - not least by Marnus Labuschagne, unfortunately.
The runners and riders:
Dom Sibley (922 runs @ 70) - surely will open with Rory Burns? Sam Northeast (720 runs @ 60) - could he bat three? Gary Ballance (727 runs @ 60) - I feel like they won't, but you never know Zak Crawley (639 runs @ 42) - opener gives him more of a chance, and there's something about him
Lewis Gregory and a few others are putting up incredible bowling numbers but that feels like a rather more closed shop right now with Jofra and Wood likely to join Woakes/Anderson/Broad.
Intriguingly there's an England Lions v Australia A game before the squad is announced. Maximum (unofficially) of two players from each team, I'd hazard a guess at something like this:
Dom Sibley (Warwickshire) Zak Crawley (Kent) Sam Northeast (Hampshire, captain) Gary Ballance (Yorkshire) Olly Robinson (Kent, keeper) Will Jacks (Surrey) Sam Curran (Surrey) Lewis Gregory (Somerset) Dom Bess (Somerset) Jofra Archer (Sussex) Jamie Porter (Essex)

I feel they should play Jack Leach in any prospective Lions squad, given that for some reason they still seem to consider him inferior to Rashid in red-ball. Should, but won’t.
I forget that there’s another Oliver Robinson! How’s he doing?

The bowling options are interesting, broaderson are a given, woakes in English conditions allied to his batting is surely a given too, so no room for archer or wood. At the top, yeesh. Burns stays but hasn't scored many this year, you'd assume sibley at 2,but can you go into an ashes with a relatively untested 1 and 2 in test cricket? Chuck in the fact we've no idea who is playing 3,it shouldn't be yjb, and it's a very inexperienced top 3. Against starc, Pattinson, Hazelwood et al

If form was what they were going on, it'd certainly be sibley and ballance at 2 and 3,but cannot see them ever going back to ballance

Bloody shambles. My least favourite women’s cricketer at the heart of it, as usual. 🙄

Women's test starts tomorrow at Taunton. England very much need a win, so hopefully Sophie Ecclestone can do her best Jack Leach impression* and bowl England to victory.
* Shaved head optional and perhaps not encouraged.

Cor, Alex Wharf is a bit of a not outer as an umpire. Bit unusual for a former bowler.
