SMITH HAS MISSED A STRAIGHT ONE
This is a miracle. Last time he did that he was concussed.
80 is his lowest score of the series. Good god.

Pleased for Joe Denly, seems a nice fella. Would it be harsh to say I'd take him on tour as batting cover? I don't think he's quite good enough but almost the definition of someone who won't let you down.

Lolling at Warner, what a horrid series he's had. One more and we're into the tail.

Yesterday’s 54 twice as good as anything else, pretty remarkable. Also the fact that Rory Burns still managed to be one of the highest scorers

Well there we have it, England's hold on 5th place in the Test Championship is strengthened.
Producing a team of the series is tough. Ideally it's Burns, Smith, Smith, Smith, Stokes, Smith, Smith, 4 bowlers
I'd go for Burns Denly (highest average as an opener) Labuschagne Smith Root Stokes Wade Cummins Archer Hazlewood Lyon
Australia edge this team 6-5, which seems about right. Could easily put Broad in for Hazlewood or Lyon but wanted a spinner and Hazlewood's stats are better. Says a bit that Buttler is the next highest run scorer not in this team given his series. Absolutely bowler dominated but a great series at that.

Wade's not played as a keeper this series, so I'd have to go for Bairstow (best of a bad two) and Wade over Root who's been... there, I suppose. No centuries to Wade's two. If I were actually making selections I'd probably pick Root on the grounds that he's not an utter cock. I'd likely pick Broad over Archer too. With Cummins and Hazlewood you have the pace angle covered, and Broad's been really strong. And so onto NZ, which doesn't count towards the World Test Championship because reasons.

I do not know what to make of this series....it feels like we've been pretty much humped in the field by Australia day in day out but have come out of it with a 2-2 draw. Picking a team of the series is a lot easier now the 5th test has finished, i'd been moaning a few pages before about the lack of a 2, 6 or 7 for this team, and Denly and Wade have stepped up nicely in the last test to cement a place each and Paine's embarrassing use of DRS, horrendous captaincy and multiple dropped catches have landed YJB a place by default. The real 50/50 call for me is between Lyon and Leach, in the end I suppose Lyon has taken more wickets, but Leach has bowled far fewer overs and his batting has contributed a LOT to the England cause.....suppose it should be Lyon really. Have gone for Broad over Archer, he's been devastating this series, fantastic length this summer, long may it continue.
So, Burns, Denly, Labuschange, Smith, Stokes, Wade, Bairstow, Cummins, Broad, Hazelwood, Lyon.

Labuschagne adds a try for Japan to his exploits this summer. Nice to see he made one world cup squad after doing so well at Glamorgan!

Re-listening to Headingley on TMS, it's unbelievable that Buttler is still in the Test team. Simply unbelievable.
