Well well, what happened there? That escalated rather quickly. Warner denied a century but how come Siddle outscored 6 players put together? Brittle batting from the Australians here and SA openers are looking good here.

This is even worse considering it was on a largely flat WACA deck from 158/0.
In any case, with Steyn injured, SA will still have to bowl well to win this game irrespective of the target they ser.

Dropping Morkel is going to hurt a little more here I think.

They didn't drop him he wasn't fit.
He hadn't recovered completely and they didn't want to take the risk. But will play next game though.
P.S Keep up with the facts.

Exactly, he wasn't completely fit and with Steyn being how he is at the moment, unless Morkel was 100% it wasn't worth the risk, especially on a flat WACA deck. You don't want to take 5 bowlers and have two of them injured. So they went with the safe option.
But with steyn out of the series and Morkel getting an extra week, he should be in for the second Test.

Duminy batting pretty well at the moment with Elgar supporting him. SA nearing the 100 run mark.

Is this the end of Steyn? Sad if so, the last unarguably great bowler.

Balladeer, do not worry. The freedom of Burnley is still around and will be back next month

He bowled so quick yesterday as well, but I think if its a stress fracture then that's it for test cricket at least sadly

Anderson has had some unfair criticisms as well.

I would argue that the arguing is part of what makes a true great. That Steyn never illicited the passion among the fans that guys like Anderson, Swann & Broad did/do is kinda what makes me look forward to a new SA era. Not saying cricket won't miss Steyn. Of course it will, but we need more passion in test cricket if it's to survive and if the upshot of losing a great is that we can watch SA be competitive with the likes of Australia (without AB to boot!) then all is not lost.

Fantastic day for South Africa, but terrible news that Steyn will miss the rest of the series.

Arguing about greatness is good but not about whether he fits into that category or not. Anderson has always been good at home and inexpensive away so an English legend maybe but an all-time one when you have the likes of waqar ambrose who tore it up everywhere no.
Steyn on the other hand has been brilliant everywhere he has played and if south Africa played nearly as many Tests as England did he would have overtaken McGrath by now and that says something.
In any case it will be sad to see him go like this. But if he is, his team are certainly giving him a fitting send off
