The North vs South series started yesterday with a good win for the South team. For the South, Nick Gubbins made a century, Delray Rawlins and Bell Drummond made fifties and Sam Curran and Dom Bess taking 3 wickets each. While for the North, Saqib Mahmood took 5 wickets and there was cameos from most of the batsmen.

I’d say that’s probably more county stuff than Lions stuff Humair. Northeast was a first team pick, that’s how you can tell.

Lions team to face India A: Cook, Burns, Gubbins, Malan, Pope, Woakes, SCurran, Bess, Fisher, Leach (the bald one), Porter.
That’s a mighty strong side. I’d like to think it might make the different between Burns at 3 and Malan at 4, but of course it won’t. Still no Northeast...
Pope to keep presumably?

Pope probably keeps yes, although theoretically I think Burns could take the gloves too, although highly unlikely. Bit of an odd team if you ask me, not really a traditional Lions side. Bit disappointed in the seam attack, would liked to have seen Stone or Brookes in there; don't enormously get the love for Fisher within the England set-up. Two spinners given the weather is probably sensible. I imagine Leach probably comes into the Test team over Bess given India are stacked with right-handers. Malan under pressure but there's no-one in this side really competing for his spot; Clarke in particular is an odd omission. Given the lack of red ball cricket in the build-up to the series he's probably got the first two Tests but he's really got to make some runs.

I'm guessing two spinners is more because they want to give them both some playing time, not because the weather is suited for it! Agreed that no proper pace is odd.

Four day game between England Lions and India A today at New Road, some very talented players on show - Rahane and Vijay joining Nair, Shaw, Vihari, Agarwal for India and then this rather decent looking England side:
Rory Burns (capt), Alastair Cook, Nick Gubbins, Dawid Malan, Ollie Pope, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, Dom Bess, Matt Fisher, Jack Leach, Jamie Porter
It's just a Hildreth short of being properly dreamy. And maybe Gleeson over Fisher, who management seem to be super high on but I don't quite think is there yet.

Malan in sounding not terribly secure shocker.

50 for Malan, probably seals his place in the first test. 150 for Cook. But how many of these India bowlers will play?!

He had about fifty bajillion LBW shouts at the last time of counting. I rather suspect that had the umpires not both been English, he'd have been gone by now.
Christ, Rory!

Nice to see Cook scoring.
I still hope to see him overtake Sachin one day, even if it takes him 50 tests more. Because the reaction would be hilarious.

Not a good few days to be a Surrey batsman not named Scott Borthwick.
