I know the Indian domestic season isn't as old and as illustrious as the English counterpart, but it is still a very exciting competition nontheless.
It used to be stacked in favour of the batsmen, but now bowlers are finally starting to strike back.
This thread will be the one-stop shop for discussion during the Ranji season, which lasts almost until the English season begins. So it should keep you all entertained.

Apparently I'm supporting Rajasthan, mostly because Pankaj Singh is the captain. A bowler being a captain is more or less worth the asking price alone, but that bowler being Pankaj Singh? Marvellous. I can just hear Jonathan Agnew saying, "Pankaj bustles in to bowl..."

My favorite quote of the week from Aakash Chopra.
" The Ranji Trophy is played out in empty stadiums, is barely covered by the mainstream media, and lacks the glamour of the IPL. But it'll be a grave mistake to underestimate the importance of this tournament. "

Mr. Sri, a couple of questions: what's the best way to follow the Ranji, for somebody who only speaks English? And do the Ranji teams have overseas players, or even Kolpaks? Or is it just Indians?

Songster, Ranji teams can have kolpaks or overseas players but as far as know none of the teams have any of them because they don't have too much money.
Best way to follow is probably via cricinfo Here quite a few games are live on telly but don't think u ll get anything in the UK unless u stream it live.

Ballance should have a go.
Shame that there's no easier way to follow it - ah well. This is making me appreciate that, much though we say the English county game is under threat, it's actually in pretty good health relatively speaking.

To be fair, it is very accessible if you live in India. You can watch it on TV and you usually have reports in the national papers.
Both things that County cricket doesn't have. But I will agree that the quality is much better in England.

Tamil Nadu win the toss and choose to bat. The pitch will, surprise, surprise, help the spinners. Slight drizzle around, pacers will need their variation to have any chance. As usual first inning lead is crucial, but TN's spinners hold the upper hand for the moment as they will bowl last. Also, well done A Mukund, on his 100th FC game. EDIT: Also, there is a liveblog for the Ranji Trophy here.

Not a great start for Saurashtra. Puj going for 10 won't help but at least Jadeja is still there at lunch. And with Sheldon Jackson still there a decent total is still obtainable.

Karnataka shot out for 187 on the first day with nine wickets falling to spinners. Are there ECB Pich Inspectors over in Guwahati?

Ah, so i'm not the only one who lets the Ranji Trophy pass them by? Good to see my team for the season, Punjab, have got off to a solid start.

Rajasthan vs. Delhi looks like a low-scoring thriller. Come on Pankaj! And, er, other players!
EDIT: PANKAJ ISN'T EVEN PLAYING! Somehow this is Srinivasan's fault.

If I'm not mistaken songster, he is injured. Nemouk, we have pitch inspectors if teams score runs, not if wickets fall
