Ballance dropped for no reason at all, well other than not having the technique for test cricket, Ball dropped for being not very good, Curran equally so, but you know what its a bit harsh after doing no less than any other bowler in those 2 tests and showing some balls with the bat.....everyone else gets a 2nd (or in some cases a 5th, 6th, 7th) chance.
Livingstone back in, him or Malan for #3? Stokes a shoe-in for #6?

James Vince is still in the squad.
James Vince.
James. Vince.
Otherwise I think it looks pretty good. Malan is not a number 3 and I hope they don’t try to make him one, and I hope to God that they play Livingstone over Vince... but they won’t, because reasons.
I’d like to see Wood in over Broad too, which also won’t happen. Again, reasons.

Why have they named the squad two months in advance?

What a boringly predictable squad! Presume TRJ is still injured which is a pity as he's been the one really good relative newbie recently; Malan decent too. Disappointed we have no reserve opener.
There are 17 short form matches to come now, I can see Vince only being given a handful of them but getting one or two scores and Bayliss using this to justify selecting him as our number 3 in the tests only to inevitably score 26, 37, 14 and 23. Hopefully in reality they let Livingstone, Foakes and Crane get a bit of experience, and leave Vince to work on his FC game for a couple of years and eradicate the issue before we see any more beautiful 20s in the tests.

The good news is that I'll be able to admire Vince's beautiful innings without ruining my sleeping pattern.

Think Ballance has been treated pretty shabbily

He has, is true. Should arguably never have been brought to Oceania.

Liam Livingstone has better career best innings FC bowling figures than Coverton, Crane and Mark Wood. I know they're all young (ish- Wood 28 today), but when Livingstone is a part-timer and has just 11 career wickets at 53, it's a bit embarrassing...
In terms of averages, at 53 he's our third best leggie; Crane 46 and Malan 41

Stokes confirmed as having been charged with affray, wonder if this will impact his availability for NZ?

Wouldn't claim to be a criminal law expert, but affray is generally what you get charged with when they think they couldn't prove assault or ABH. It's a minor charge, it would be unusual for a first offence to end up with anything more than community service.
Doesn't mean the ECB won't throw the book at him though.

This Ben Stokes thing....if the ECB had maintained his withdrawal from the squad could he still have gone off to play in the Ipple? If so, wonder if the decision was one made to save some face as it'd look pretty poor on the ECB if he couldn't play for England but could go smash it around in India?
