Eoin Morgan....the Stuart Broad of white ball cricket, seeming contributes nothing, regularly poor but has one good day every now and then and thus continues to be guaranteed a shirt

From the sound of things, he's more like the Mike Brearley of white-ball cricket. People regularly talk up what a brilliant captain and man-manager he is. I guess some things aren't so easy to spot on the pitch.

....which poses a question, how important is the captain in white ball? I mean, compared to red ball? I'd certainly suggest it's a lot more important in the long form and a good captain can almost keep their place in the face of iffy form, but in the short form....is it sustainable

SHame to have slept through nearly all of that ODI, couple of tweets from sports reporters and journos calling it a shocking pitch, not the right description in my view, whenever any match at any level goes down to the final ball, i'd call that a good, if challenging pitch. I mean come on, bowlers need something to work with occasionally!

also apols owed to Morgan, I make that 3 innings in a row he's contributed, he is no longer the Broad of white ball cricket.....

Both teams batted the full 50 overs (just), plenty of wickets, game still live till the last ball.
I'd take a match like this over 400/2 plays 400/1 any day.
Also there's something warming to the soul about Kiwi medium pacers bowling economically in the middle overs of an ODI.

2 super and 1 superduper innings today, on the wrong side of another close one, but well played both teams. Frustrating middle order collapse, that due to child #2 waking at 12.30 I witnessed via cricinfo live updates....the pillocks. Think that Woakes was under bowled, his econ going into his 7th over was half that of any other bowler, only 2 death overs bumped him up to his still thoroughly respectable 5.25, another 2 overs of Woakes in the middle somewhere could have made a difference in the end, we'll never know

Cricket in NZ is very inconveniently timed.

stupid sleep! that's about as comprehensive a defeat as you're likely to see in an ODI, phenomenal form from Bairstow and Woakes and another bilateral win.....just try do it when it really matters now chaps!
