Wood’s average is not good... but England need someone with proper pace, and Woakes is not it. Don’t think there’s anybody on the sidelines either. It is, again, a case of having a lack of options.

Woakes kinda was it for a bit, he was bowling 90 last summer. Think Woakes may become a home conditions seamer at least until Anderson finally retires. We just need to be a bit more open to flexing our bowling attack to conditions rather than playing the 'best' 3 no matter what.

Flexible Nemo? What world do you live in man! The ECB have never shown an ounce of flexibility. Woakes certainly seems to be a home seamer, he's certainly quicker than Broaderson, and up there with Wood too though neither fills me with a huge amount of confidence in the test arena as a long term opening bowler.
After the 90s and early 2000s where we were dire, we've been relatively spoiled as England Cricket fans over the past 10-12 years. We've had our best ever quick and best ever bat (at least statistically speaking), one of our best ever spinners and a number of other very top players playing too. With it looking ever more likely that Cook and Anderson are coming to the end, we could very quickly find ourselves back in the dark days, there is such a lack of depth in bowling and batting at the moment it really is quite scary.
