This is phenomenal...as if things couldn't get worse after Aus, only option is to chuckle and guffaw

The worst thing is, the selection’s actually not bad! Vince out, new man in is the only one to score any runs... I’m not sure whether to be happy at the thought of a possible wholesale review, of worried that this’ll give Root more ammunition for, ‘I told you I shouldn’t bar at three.’

Yep, nothing selection wise that would be an obvious change, can debate the merits of Mo playing rather than a genuine spinner, not sure at the moment if he's a batting or bowling all rounder given form with both but even then, when the only other option is a lad who has not played international cricket before what do you do!??!
Bottom line, having now watched the dismissals, is that virtually the entire top 7 appeared to be shit scared of coming forwards and actually getting out of the crease, was like watching 7 Gaz B's bat today. We simply are not good enough, and today wasn't the pace barrage we faced in Aus it was devastating swing bowling, something we claim to be proponents of

Also advance notice that I'm placing £10 on the selectors response to 58 all out being to drop the bowler who top scored in the innings and leave all the batsmen in place.

I mean, I’d do the same. Overton’s batting should (nb. should) be a bonus. His bowling doesn’t add much to the existing line-up. Meanwhile you’ve got a fit-again genuine quick on the sidelines.
The one selection issue I dispute is the one that’s partly worked... sigh.

That was shockingly shit.
Broady has 400 wickets though.

Yep and true to form he got his 400th with a pie on leg stump which should have been clipped for 4

Unforgettable day for England, was not expecting that when I checked the score.

Oh come on what.
Nobody deserves this. New Zealand doesn't deserve this. England don't deserve this. The ECB definitely don't deserve this.
Hopefully Kane will declare overnight and win by an innings. And Stoneman will carry his bat.

Two days of rain and still don't think that will be enough to save England.

short ball to Stoneman, 4 to fine leg short ball to Stoneman, top edged 6 short ball to Stoneman, caught at deep fine leg.
Telegraphed. What a plonker.

I'm probably happier than I should be at noticing Henry Nicholls actually used a Gray Nicholls bat.
Stoneman gets set then is bounced out, and Root fails to go from 50 to 100. What a surprising turn of events.

Well, it was closer than it should have been from 27/9.
At least we didn't cause an international incident.
Big questions ahead of the next test, but well played NZ.

Some bang ordinary dismissals there, the type that a recently retired gent would/did get called out massively on when he got out in a similar way, massive questions ahead of the next test, for all the rightful slagging our batting has taken after that first innings, the lingering questions over our bowling attack aren't going anywhere any time soon. But the biggest question is who on earth would be a viable option to bring in to counter any of the issues we have? No genuine options to replace an opener, none to play at 3, no seamers or spinners crying out to be selected either. If his back is better, I imagine Stokes will bowl, COverton will be replaced by Vince and that'll be that, only so much that can be done with the squad we have.
The most worrying questions I have relate to Cook and Root, take away the double on the MCG road and he's barely scored a run un the last 6 months, I suspect his mind is starting to become more focussed on his farm, and if we were looking at a new opener, I think it'd be to play with Stoneman rather than Cook at the moment. As for Root, well, the trend is there for all to see, he's almost becoming Vince +30 - instead of getting a lovely 20 and getting out, its a lovely half century then out, he needs a big score and soon or it'll start to really play on his mind like crazy.
Footnote, i give the guy some (a lot of) hammer, but fair play to Broad for his approach with the bat in that innings, 1 off 19 is not something I thought we'd ever see from him again, and yeah it wasn't for long but a glimmer of intent is better than nothing, was also our best bowler too
