May be an over reaction, but i'm now worried about us this year, I'd thought it 50/50 that we'd either win the league or go down.....fair enough we were missing our bowling attack against Hants, but there wasn't really anyone missing from the top 6 (Bairstow and Root are only Yorks players on paper now) and yet again, there were the same problems we had last year, can't rely on your bowling attack to bail you out week in and week out, we've no one coming through batting wise and the same flaws which i'd hoped were a '1 off' last year don't seam to have gone away.

The thing is you can't really make a judgement on how a teams season will be from one game. All winter i've felt Kent will struggle with the ball. Yes now we've signed Harris which could make it easier but it's only the first game, there's still an awful lot of cricket to be played!
Stunning turnaround from Hampshire, I still think they'll be in a relegation fight, the bowling looks to dependent on friendly conditions. It'll be interesting to see how Abbott bowls on a flat day in July because that could decide it for them. Even so, a victory to start the season could be vital points come September!

Hampshire only won 2 games last season, so to have have 1 win already feels great. Hopefully we have Mason Crane for those flat days in July!

Absolutely delighted with that. After such a poor batting performance in the first innings I thought the season would be a repeat of last year - some decent patches but too frequent batting collapses and occasional weak bowling at the tail. Always thought the run chase was possible given how easy Ballance had made batting look but thought we'd crumble after losing a few wickets. I know Yorkshire were without a few players, but Hants were also without their overseas player Bailey (I know we really had 5 overseas players already but technically not...) and Topley, two very handy players. Don't think we have enough to win the title, but definitely shouldn't be needing a third great escape! First three games being Yorkshire twice and Middlesex, if we're outside the relegation zone after 3 games we're doing well so that's a huge result

Gus Robson has stormed out of Leics., it sounds like. Can think of quite a few teams who could do with a solid opener, in either division.

Yorkshire's one of the few teams with some half-decent openers! Maybe ask him if he wants to bat at number 4...

A shame for him. Will be interesting to see if/where he ends up.

Maybe I'm being harsh, but being dropped as a 25 year old opener for the worst county in the country who averages 31 in the second division and replaced by a 19 year old doesn't seem overly unfair. Would people be bothered if his brother wasn't a better player?
That said, Pierre de Bruyn sounds like a bit of a prat really from everything I've seen and heard.

The fact he has a load of 50s is about the only thing going for him.

Still better than most down there. And Paul Horton isn't exactly setting anything alight. I'm surprised it's only 31 though.

Think I read his average was only 27 last season too so he might not be inundated with offers, sure there'll be someone though. His fairly slow scoring also won't help, he's never even played a t20, bit surprised he's left Good chance for Dearden and his FC average twenty below Robson's to get a run in the side, from his cricinfo looks like he's been passed around from Lancashire (2nd XI) to Hampshire (2nd XI) to Leicestershire so I guess now could be his last chance to show he can cut it

Dearden's average is from 8 innings rather than 97 though...

So, as it's a beautifully scheduled (shock horror!) full round of fixtures over Easter weekend, is anyone actually going? I may pop down to Taunton if I can find anyone to go with, never actually been to HQ before due to an odd combination of circumstances (mostly involving living in London for most of my time)

Lack of money and someone to go with means that I won't be going either, despite being local to the Ageas and Hampshire hosting Middlesex.
