For example, I still love the Nintendo 3DS... YAY! Anyway, long story short, I just finished Super Paper Mario Sticker Star and have to say this might be the most under-rated, charming, challenging and overall wonderful game I've ever played. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I loathed Sticker Star. While not the worst game, it's so far below my second-favourite game ever, Paper Mario and the Thousand-Year Door, in terms of quality, that it's practically an insult to the Paper Mario series. I mean, what self-respecting RPG (a) has a map screen instead of an overworld and (b) discourages you from fighting by offering almost no reward? Oh well, hopefully it was only a one-off and they'll go back to the TTYD template next time... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAnyway, I've just finished playing Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice on the 3DS, and I even reviewed it here. Bottom line: it's great great stuff.

LOL. Was just going to tell Sri, that I totally get him and recommend the Professor Layton series....except for Layton meets Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney. Haha. Oh Layton. I love him so much. But Phoenix?! Boo Hoo! He's a long winded brash American who thinks too highly of him....errr....(her?)self. (Gulp!)
Not talking me out of sticker star. Loved it. Soooooo loved it.
PS....right up there with you on the original Super Paper Mario. My all time fave. <3

Super Paper Mario was good, but there were two before that - one on N64, and one on Gamecube. The latter is my absolute fave.
I'd recommend some of the Layton games too - but again, not PLvPW. That honestly does not show either in its best light. Lost Future and Azran Legacy are by far my favourites.
If you start off with the original Ace Attorney games (you can get them on iPhone but they're better on DS/Virtual Console), you'll have a much much better time of it. Phoenix isn't brash, he's a rookie who's learning the ropes and more often than not getting tangled up in them. And he's very sarcastic, but only in his own head. Remember, he's Japanese before his localisation! But he's not done any favours by that team-up.
Sri, I like my books but I've never been much of a movie person. I want to be able to take part in my entertainment. Maybe that's why I'm so lousy with them (and also, why I've never shelled out for cricket on TV).

He's the Japanese interpretation of Americans though isn't he? Maybe you have to be American to get it, but when I play the games I think we must come off as very brash because that's how he comes off to me. However, I'm the product of two Tennesseeans and pretty stereotypical ones at that. Not in the "Trump voter" kind of way, but in the polite, manneristic kind of way. Which isn't meant to insult you or the UK and your politeness at all. I love the UK & have been treated kindly every time I've visited. I think it's more of a sensitivity y'all don't think we have but a lot of us actually do. Lurking on the liveblog alone gives me the distinct impression of what many think of Americans. So maybe Phoenix the character seems soft compared to the stereotype but for me the embodiment of all that's wrong with it?

Well he was made American in the translation, so he's the translation team's interpretation... I'd assume they were American though?
Anyway, fair enough if you fundamentally disagree with him: I just wouldn't want you to judge the series, or him, on that travesty alone. He's much more awkward when starting out as a lawyer, as you might expect.

I see your point, but isn't it the first job of a translator to translate in the original perspective? Sigh. Didn't mean to get into a thing Balladeer. PW is just not for me. Glad you enjoy him. Can't give any insight on SP Mario pre Wii because the only game system I had before that is the NES.....the first one...of the Dr. Mario (<3) kind.
Now that we've gotten a good idea of why I do not talk about this kind of thing. I'm off to my regularly socially awkward material. Cheers.

Aww I hope you didn't think this was 'a thing', I felt it was all pretty friendly. Sorry Borb. As you say, each to their own.

Aww. No worries. It honestly should be me apologizing to you. Since I've no idea what you look like I've just pictured you as the consummate gentleman that is Layton removing his tophat (gasp! how un-Layton like!), but more in the spirit of our last discussion, i.e. you being a mix of Moeen Ali's beard and Giles Clarke. I'm truly very sorry.

...I'm more Layton with Wright's chin.
Giles Clarke, though? For shame! I don't object to you picturing me with Ali's beard though, that thing's a masterpiece.

Haven't really been playing much recently, other commitments have kept me away! Pretty excited for the NX announcement though, just want to know all the juicy details already. Incidentally, glad to see other Paper Mario fans around as The Thousand Year Door is among my top 5 games of all time, just excellent through and through. Haven't actually played Sticker Star myself though so I couldn't comment on that.

DON'T! Belle has the advantage of not having played TTYD, but if you go in expecting anything like it then you'll be disappointed. And yep, as everyone's probably guessed I'm really excited for the NX too... Excited, and concerned. Lots of rumours about how it might be something a bit odd, a handheld-home console hybrid. The last thing Nintendo needs is another console that's underpowered and hard to communicate. Entirely your fault! "Basically what I'm saying is that you should draw Moeen Ali's beard slowly becoming independent from his body and eating e.g. Giles Clarke" I've been had!

DON'T! Belle has the advantage of not having played TTYD, but if you go in expecting anything like it then you'll be disappointed. This may very well be true, but in all honesty, I think it's entirely possible that guys might not like it because it's not very challenging. What drew me to it was more of the humor and design elements. I found the graphics absolutely adorable. Every level just seemed to get cuter and cuter. The ice world was particularly awwwww. Who doesn't love a ski lift?! Or a shy guy underground roller coaster?! I laughed out loud at the singing Alpine goat sticker and the fact that it ended up eating the garbage. It was just so random. You know how in the Layton games you can get irritated because some of the puzzles aren't logical and you have to think outside of the box? That was this game for me. You had to really think which big sticker to use and mostly it was incredibly random, but somehow amusing instead of tedious like Layton can be at times. A Layton inspired hint system would have been nice at times though! At its most basic level it's a story and graphic arts game, not an rpg and thus I can see Balladeer's point.

Haven't been playing much games lately but when I do, Age of Empires series is one of my go-to games. I also play the venerable EA Cricket 07 game, and I play in the county championship season mode with Lancs (of course). The team still has Freddie, Chapple, Chilton, Mal Loye, Stuart Law and Brad Hodge. Both are great games.

Age of Empires is a cracker. I no longer have EA Cricket 07 though, unfortunately.
