Thought it might be interesting to rank the performance of the £125k players to see how important the big names really are.
Birmingham Phoenix
Matthew Wade: 174 runs at 157 SR, 2ct
Liam Livingstone: 173 runs at 145 SR, 1wkt from 45 balls at 142 ER
Overall: Solid, but unspectacular. Saved by Wade's 81 to beat Spirit, ultimately in vain. 6/10
London Spirit
Kieran Pollard: 113 runs at 166 SR
Liam Dawson: 31 runs at 129 SR, 8wkts from 125 balls at 118 ER
Overall: Dawson's consistency has shone through and some useful Pollard finishes. 8/10
Manchester Originals
Andre Russell: 148 runs at 168 SR, 4wkts from 75 balls at 177 ER
Laurie Evans: 96 runs at 175 SR
Overall: Must admit I was surprised Evans was a top pick, but has captained well, and both scored at a good rate. 7/10
Northern Superchargers
Dwayne Bravo: 8wkts from 120 balls at 152 ER
Adil Rashid: 8wkts from 155 balls at 125 ER
Overall: Only team to prioritise bowlers, and they've been solid, but no match winning performances (Rashid 1 wicket in all 8 games). 6/10
Oval Invincibles
Sunil Narine: 11wkts from 120 balls at 101 ER
Jason Roy: 51 runs at 100 SR
Overall: One brilliant, one not. 6/10
Southern Brave
Quinton de Kock: 115 runs at 108 SR, 3ct
Marcus Stoinis: 59 runs at 111 SR, 2wkts from 55 balls at 153 ER
Overall: Neither fired, both with the dizzy heights of 37 as their HS. 2/10
Trent Rockets
Tom Kohler-Cadmore: 114 runs at 112 SR
Rashid Khan: 3wkts from 40 balls at 160 ER
Overall: Surprisingly poor given they topped the group. 3/10
Welsh Fire
Joe Clarke: 102 runs at 93 SR, 3ct
Tom Banton: 83 runs at 104 SR
Overall: Very little did work with this team, but very poor showings. 1/10
I think Narine is the only £125k player who could have a shout for their franchise's MVP. 4 West Indies players on this list, which seems unlikely to be repeated if they're only around for half the group stage again in 2023. Brave the only team to opt for two overseas signings here and on this occasion, it really didn't work!
