Ben Brown to Hants, terrific signing for my money. Suggestion is he'll start the season as a specialist bat, which seems strange as McManus has never really torn up trees despite having a lot of opportunities.
Will be a nightmare to pick his position in fantasy stuff!
Hants have Gubbins, Whiteley and Brown added to their squad over the winter which is a very decent set indeed.

Hants finished the season pretty much using James Fuller as a specialist batter in the 4-day stuff (and Crane opening of course!) so delighted with that signing, suspect he'll be primarily red ball (possibly keeping). Handy to have him and Gubbins around as potential captains when Vince and Dawson are carrying the drinks for England. Can't think of many players averaging 40 these days even if it is largely D2!
Feels like just the winter Hants needed if we can just replace/re-sign Abbas. Donald still feels like a new signing too!

Somerset run with #____Returns as their trail of their overseas.
Everyone immediately thinks it's Babar or Conway.
It's Matt Renshaw.
Sure he'll do well, but that has to go down as a bit of a disappointment!

Otis Gibson to Yorks, a great move not only as a coach but as a strong step towards embracing diversity at the county

I like that, a thoroughly experienced coach with a lot of interesting work around the world. Would take a fairly deranged mind to label him a quota appointment, although I certainly won't be reading FB comments to find them!

Somerset have signed Peter Siddle as an overseas... a third overseas. Siddle, Renshaw and Marchant. I can only imagine there'll be a degree of rotation between the pace bowlers, but it's an interesting approach.

Second overseas confirmed for Hampshire, the return of Abbas! (for 2 months+)

Tim Bresnan retires - who knows whether he didn't fancy pre-season training or Warwickshire suggested they didn't fancy selecting him after the fallout of the Azeem Rafiq allegations. He didn't come over especially well in the aftermath of that.

Lakmal to Derbs. could be a stealth excellent call. Imagine he'll thrive over here in April.

Super interesting one that, love a bit of more thoughtful overseas recruitment. Do think his style should suit yes.

Just before the season starts, we have a spot of wicketkeeper switcheroo:
Tom Alsop Hants -> Sussex (season loan) Lewis McManus Hants -> Northants (4 week loan, you'd imagine extension likely) Adam Rossington Northants -> Essex (season loan)
The upshot of that is you'd imagine Ben Brown keeps for Hants, and we have an odd situation at Essex where Rossington or Wheater are likely to need to play as a specialist bat.

Alsop should be a good signing for Sussex. They blooded a ton of young players last season so need a bit of experience to balance the side better.

Very early for a 2023 thread, but Somerset have announced the signing of Tom Kohler-Cadmore.
Several thoughts:
1) There's some Joe Clarke-esque ickiness here, isn't there? Not a comfortable one 2) Very good player though, and interesting that Somerset really don't sign batters from other counties 3) The batting order will now likely be Tom Lammonby, Tom Banton, Tom Abell and Tom Kohler-Cadmore. This is a very Tom-specific recruitment strategy

TKC has never really consistently performed for Yorks, tho he's a loss nonetheless, he never seemed to be dragged into the WhatsApp fall out like Clarke did for whatever reasons

Trundling Death stepping down. Sad day, maybe. Dunno how involved he was with the systematic racism stuff.
