I know, early doors but...
Shaheen Shah Afridi to Middlesex until mid-July.
Woof! Murtagh and Afridi opening up, good luck batters.
Also Marcus Harris to Gloucestershire, a less exciting but probably very canny signing.

I mean, Abbas and Abbott weren't quite as destructive as everybody thought they'd be... but yep probably not the best thing to face in April.

41 wickets @ 15.87 and 46 @ 21.65 was pretty good, no? Barker got 46 @ 18.41 too. I don't think seam bowling was Hampshire's problem!
Same true of Middlesex mind, Bamber and Murtagh took plenty of wickets very cheaply with able support from TRJ once he was fit.
Shaheen might score more runs than Handscomb did, mind.

Hot take: I don't think 46 @ 21.65 is superb for an ex-international seam bowler in the CC, especially not with Abbas bowling at the other end. Fair play though that's just one out of the two.

Nine bowlers took more wickets at a lower average, so know what you mean. Interesting group too - Fletcher, Rushworth, Cook, Murtagh, Paterson, Bamber, Bailey, Norwell & Jordan Thompson. Lots of schwing there.
(Abbas and Coverton significantly lower average but a few fewer wickets)

Sam Northeast off on a 3 year contract at Glamorgan - becomes the 4th English player to play for 5 clubs in the CC, and will be the first ever (English or not) to play for four clubs in 12 months.
For info, here are his Hampshire figures: County Championship: 31 games, 1778 runs @ 37.04 (8 50s 5 100s) List A: 12 games, 413 runs @ 51.62 (4 50s 1 100) t20: 36 games, 684 runs @ 20.72 (SR 104) (3 50s)
Came to Hampshire looking to push for England and again provided *almost* good enough numbers. Would love to hear more about why he's had to traipse across the country to get a permanent gig for next season as those numbers still put him in pretty much any side!

Think a decent part of it might just be that it's not a great time for most clubs financially, so a 30+ year old looking for presumably a fairly healthy, long term contract might find himself having a trickier negotiation than normal.

Derbyshire wicketkeeper Harvey Hosein retires at 25 after repeated concussion symptoms. Horrible to hear but good that this kind of thing is now recognised and diagnosed.
Hard not to read the story and think of poor Will Pucovski, who recently got concussed again.

Crtichley to Essex. That's an annoyingly good signing.

Micky Arthur to Derbyshire. That's a serious appointment, although he might need to bat in the middle order at this rate.

Lots of exciting overseas signings for my money, bit more thoughtful than the usual parade of middling Aussies - Mohammed Rizwan, Naseem Shah, George Linde, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi
Admittedly, this just might be me enjoying seeing Pakistani fast bowlers...
