Leach only the 6thd England player ever to open the batting and bowling, and first since Gooch. NOTTHATAWESOMESTATKLAXON

Winning a series in the subcontinent isn’t bad.

Broad in for Jimmy. Good choice, that. Sad Stone isn’t getting a game though.

Root is a very good tosser, I'll say that for him.

Meanwhile it looks like Jonny Bairstow may be at 3 for the foreseeable.
Hmmmmmmmmm.

YJB has massively shot himself in the foot here, he's stuck at 3 now for the foreseeable future, a position that, particularly in England, he is pretty unsuited too. Plus it's also guaranteed he'll not have the gloves back any time soon either. Foolish.

Cricket Social: ‘What England fan doesn’t want to see Anderson and Broad playing for as long as possible?’ Thoughts, Pierre?

You know what, I do hope they can both carry on for a while yet, I just want them to be held to the same standards that other opening bowlers would be too and to not be automatic choices. I am utterly delighted that they have been rotated in these tests, and hope similar happens in the Windies where I suspect we are likely to see slow turning pitches as we are here. It is easy to look at the sheer number of wickets taken by them both and go wow, they are fucking ace, but any impartial observer must surely recognise that when it's not hooping or seaming that they can be an infuriating pair whose figs are exaggerated by always getting the pick of the bowling.
And on the Broad thing, i'm possibly one of his largest critics, but only because I think that he could have been a better player than he turned out as, he could have been a genuine #8 batsmen but lost his head, even once that happened, he could have at least approached batting like Jimmy does, playing for the team, looking to stay in, but chose to be a slogger. As for his bowling, I just wish he'd been dropped a couple of times, or had the NB taken off him every so often to re focus his mind, force him to work harder to become the bowler he could have been.

I'm surprised about the balance of that answer! But fair enough. I too agree with the rotation. Sri Lanka are Pakistanning!
