Division 1 Som. v Notts. Hants. v Surrey Lancs. v Essex
Division 2 Warks. v Glam. Gloucs. v Kent Dur. v Derbs. Nhants. v Leics.
If you’d said that Notts. vs. Somerset was going to be a battle for the top of the table back in April, you’d have been laughed out of town. And yet. Three interesting matches to follow in Division 1, and... none in Division 2.

A big welcome back to Jamie Overton, who features in a Somerset Championship squad for the first time this season. Also fairly remarkably, this is Somerset's fourth home game in five played so far this season. Deliberate scheduling so as to avoid any more Ciderabad-style pitches?

I genuinely don't know why anyone with an interest in English cricket would want that, seeing as it's given England their last two Test spinners.

Because it relegated a Test county? No Jamie O in the team named, which is a bit irritating, but understandable in being cautious. Somerset team:
Byrom Renshaw Bartlett Hildreth Abell (c) Davies (wk) Gregory Van der Merwe Bess C. Overton Davey
Also there's been a Lions squad named for the tri-series against their Indian and Caribbean counterparts. Steve Mullaney captains, Matt Parkinson, Sam Hain, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and, in a welcome return to international cricket from injury, Reece Topley are all in. Ben Foakes too, who is rapidly becoming this generation's James Taylor; always in the Lions, never in the full side.

Do wonder how much his public tarring and feathering by the ECB over the winter has affected poor Ben's confidence.

I hadn’t thought of that. Might be right.
Amazingly I think Durham were actually doing better in the List A stuff.

Is it too early to start Khawaja-ing Henry Brookes? Ludicrous stuff from an 18 year old.

Probably a flat pitch at the Ageas but worth noting Burns has scored this particular hundred against an attack consisting of three international seamers. Decent effort.
