I can't help thinking how Hameed would have on this pitch. It must have been him opening with Cook and Duckett at No 4 (Sorry Gaz Baz, your leg spin is under utilized anyway)

Good day of test cricket, I think England are slightly ahead.

258/7, 92 overs in the day. Solid batting from Ali, YJB and Root puts Eng in a good position. 300 will be a good total given that England wouldn't have to bat in the 4th innings. Hope Gaz Baz will be given a chance with the ball as it looks like spin is the way to go from here.

You'd take that, wouldn't you, from how things were going at the start. Still think England would have been eyeing many more from the toss. Cook especially disappointing. I hope to see the Gaz Bazzes bowling in tandem.

And a special shoutout to Kumar Dharmasena. No umpire has been ever so clueless and considering that he was a subcontinent spinner, you would expect him to do much more better than that. 3 decisions overturned inside 2 overs, all were of the same batsman and the day's top scorer, Moeen Ali. Had he accepted either of the verdicts, England would have been in a dangerous position.
DRS has become an important part of today's high stakes game. Oh, DRS! Thinking of which, there wouldn't be DRS in India right? Balls.

Let's not forget that he gave one not out that would have been out on review. On balance, thank you Kumar. (On Ballance as well actually, he tried his best.)

Yeah, overall, it was alright. But that passage of play gave me chills.

watching this am an yesterday can't help thinking we'd have been better off with another spin option and no Broad, will be surprised if any of our seamers take a wicket on here

One more Test to get the combination right - but you're not wrong.

even tho BD have started well, think England are very much in the driving seat with that wicket before lunch. All out for less than 200 I reckon
