Very excited to watch Mehedi over the next few years... Hell of a breakthrough series, hope he goes the way of Swann rather than Mendis...

When does the team to tour India get announced?

Well, that escalated quickly. Unless England can dig out a few more right handers and some actual spinners, the next series will be a formality.

Quick series ratings:
Cook - 3.5/10 - Good batting in the last innings, looking to hit some form Duckett - 4/10 - Done well in his debut series, looked fantastic in ODIs, didn't offer much in tests Root - 4/10 - Two good innings but you would expect more from the world's best batsman Ballance - 0/10 - It will be a farce if he continues Ali - 4/10 - Among wickets, batted well in one innings, would make a good second spinner Stokes - 7/10 - Won the first match on his own with very little help, brilliant bowling in the first innings of the second test match. YJB - 5/10 - Solid Keeping in first test match, batted well in two innings, backfoot technique looks dodgy Woakes - 3.5/10 - Barring 3 wickets and half century, didn't do much. Ansari - 2/10 - Poor test debut, hope he improves Rashid - 2/10 - Cleaning the tail and a solid batting innings to show for. Got to do better than that. Very unconvincing Finn - 0/10 - Pretty much useless, couldn't get some bounce with the new ball Broad - 3.5/10 - Great 9 over spell to create some pressure, should do more with the bat Batty - 4/10 - Tidy without being spectacular
Team selection - 0/10 - How Ballance was picked ahead of Hameed is beyond me; resting Batty AND Broad looks questionable now.
Too critical?

When does the team to tour India get announced? It has already been announced, they have named an unchanged squad. It means, these XI with Buttler, Hameed, Batty, Broad and Ball.

Oh dear.
Ratings a bit harsh on Ali and Batty who I'd pop up to six, and possibly Stokes who was England's best player by miles. Somehow generous to Ballance.
From that squad I expect Buttler to return in place of Ballance, which Bayliss has clearly wanted to do for a while so let's give it a go, he can't really do much worse.
Cook, Duckett, Root, Buttler, Ali, Stokes, Bairstow, Woakes, Rashid, Broad, Batty I expect, my team would probably differ but there aren't huge numbers of players battering the door down to get into this side.

Maybe the selection of Ballance was aimed at knowing he'd fail so brining in butter would raise money eyebrows. Machiavellian levels of forethought if so but I doubt it.
Harsh ratings from aneesh, we've drawn not lost the series, I'd give 3 to Ballance, 4 to Finn, 5 for cook, duckett (nb phone tried to autocorrect that to fuckwit!), Root, rashid, ansari and broad, 6es for yjb, moeen, woakes and 7 to stokes, which would've been 8 had he made a contribution with the bat in either innings this test.

I might be tempted to go in with four spinners and leave out Woakes, since at least Broad can reverse swing the ball and one pacer is more than good enough. And a leggie, offie and left arm spinner provides good variety. And obviously bring in Hameed but I'm sure England will go for Buttler and play just three spinners.

Just a recap, the Watford Wall's combined figures in the match: 11-1-48-0 at just over 4 runs an over. Also he scored a sum total of zero runs in the game.

If 1, 9, 5 and 9 batting at number four is worth three, how does one score 1 or 0? I suppose he took a few catches at least...

Well if Buttler plays ahead of Hameed, that will just be another one of those 'moon balls' by the selectors.

And obviously bring in Hameed but I'm sure England will go for Buttler and play just three spinners. this will sound bonkers....but stick with me, there may be some method in the madness of only picking 2 spinners....I don't think we've got enough good spinners to warrant playing 3 (possibly not even enough to warrant 2 sadly) so why do it? Broad in for Finn, Anderson if fit for ansari. Stokes, broad, woakes and Anderson from one end keeping it tight in 4 over bursts moeen and rashid spells from the other end. Like I said, crazy but cook trusts his seamers so give him more options

Well when I left it was 100 without loss, next time I turn radio on I hear 164 all out. Even though after the 1st morning I thought we would lose, this is still a shock to say the least. Also Cook to blame it on a lack of great spinners is a bit rich, seeing the top order batsman were a lot more to culpable.

Somehow, even after all this, I still think that Eng will do very well against India. Perhaps even win it. You know, I'm having that same "gut" feeling, which can only mean one thing.....you are completely wrong.
