Any idea why 2 Somerset bats have retired? Tom Abell has knacked his hamstring running and looks to have a reasonably long term injury. No replacement as it's an injury. Lewis Goldsworthy was struck on the helmet by a bouncer from Shane Snater yesterday and passed concussion checks at the time, but reported symptoms overnight and has been concussion subbed for Tom Banton - who has since scored his maiden FC ton. On the Essex side, Adam Rossington was injured (finger broken) on day 2 and has been replaced by Will Buttleman (as a fielding only sub, for all the difference that makes), whilst Sir Alastair is also off with a finger issue dropping a catch. It's a bit cursed, this game.

An interesting (ish) observation: the types of wins this season - we are seeing far, far more successful 4th innings chases than in recent years 2022: stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/team/largest_margins.html?id=14444;type=tournament8 (25%) wins by an innings 5 (16%) wins by runs 19 (59%) wins by wickets We'll ignore 2020 & 2021 as the Championship was so different 2019: stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/team/largest_margins.html?id=12758;type=tournament7 (18%) wins by an innings 22 (58%) wins by runs 9 (24%) wins by wickets Similar story in Test matches - 2019 was 4 by runs & 1 by wickets, 2022 has of course been 4 marvellous wins by wickets. Scoring has definitely been higher this season, although I'd still assume the fourth innings would be the hardest to bat in. The different ball has also impacted CC a lot, but can't see why this makes the fourth innings easier either - yet seems too significant a change to be a coincidence!

Yes, but it is Durham. Excessive punishments are par for the course.

Not a fan of the ECB only releasing the test players that play for Surrey - don't think it will change the championship outcome as they'll walk it anyway but it's just a bit odd

Lancashire have reached double figures!!! Yeah, Glen Chapple wasn't too happy with the state of the pitch was he. 23 wickets at Southampton too, playing in the back end of September will never catch on.

370-40, madness Scores getting lower with each innings, got enough time in the game to play another couple of matches yet!
