Eh, I see what you mean but I think playing the final under the same conditions as the tournament makes sense (the fifth day is basically an insulation against the weather more than a change, in that sense).
Fascinating how all three innings so far have been very similar: one centurion who looks like they're playing a different game, one big partnership and a lot of cheap wickets either side.
Whatever happens tomorrow, and Somerset are definitely underdogs, it's been a fantastic season. Tom Lammonby is going places - particularly whatever places the next Lions tour is visiting.

237 for Essex to win from 80 overs. Hope they play properly and go after it rather than just block the game out.
Cook getting out early would help make a game of it!

Essex two down early on, Cook looking like the key wicket.

Alistair Cook is 200/1
Every other Essex player is 152/11
Great stat from Tim de Lisle on Twitter.

Essex still on top, surely? What with the dodgy light...

Agree, can't see this going the distance. Last session just starting, we've given it a great go but we need something special now.

Bit of a shame the final played out grinding a draw rather than chasing a competitive total but no problem with Essex doing it. The first innings draw rule is used in the Sheffield Shield and Ranji Trophy finals right? I guess other things have been tried and been worse, but it does feel like it encourages negative play.
Still, the BWT was good even if it taught us nothing new - Essex are the best side in the country and Somerset an agonisingly close second. Four times in five years we've been FC runners up.
Team of the year time?
T Lammonby (Somerset) A Cook (Essex) J Libby (Worcs) B Slater (Notts/Leics) A Lees (Durham) M Critchley (Derbyshire) A Wheater (Essex) C Overton (Somerset) D Stevens (Kent) S Harmer (Essex) T Murtagh (Middx)
Interesting that almost all the impressive batsmen this season have been openers - a real change to previous seasons!
