Fair play to Jason Holder though, starting this year as he played last.

Happy to see Holder getting runs.
I'd rather it was against someone else, but there we go.

Applause applause applause, cracking innings, pair of innings even. Still reckon this could be done today.... We'll not see rashid again this year in England whites now.

They’ve started well.
I don’t even care about jinxing now. That was brutal. 300 would be a nice and utterly unattainable score to get. Show some improvement.

Adapting to conditions and bowling. By the fourth match they might be able to have a decent game!

Fantastic double hundred from Jason Holder. Good start for Rory Burns, hopefully he can get a big score to put his selection to bed.

Too many players batting too high in this order. Only root and burns in top 6 are where they should be. Jennings 11 places too high, bairstow 3 or 4, Stokes 1 or 2, buttler 1, Ali a place too high too. Problem is there is so little in county cricket to turn to, pope had a great season but we don't need another 6, other than that barrel scraping madness.

I think to be honest we're being bitten a bit by trying to be too clever in selection at the moment. As I said before the game, we have 15-16 good test cricketers but not in anything resembling a balanced format. In batting order, by preference, it would probably look something like this:
1/2: Jennings (apparently), Burns 3: Nobody at all 4: Root, Denly 5: Malan (?) 6: Stokes, Pope 7: Bairstow, Ali, Buttler, Foakes, 8: Woakes, Curran 9: Rashid, Broad, Wood, Bess 10/11: Leach, Anderson, Stone
It's tough to do much with that, short of batting someone (Bairstow, Ali) miles out of position. We seem to be trying to compensate by batting deep, but sacrificing 'proper' bowling into the bargain.
