I would like to see Gubbins or Burns being given a chance before Vince is given another go.

In a way, not as bad as it could have been. I think if you’d given me that this morning I would have taken it.

Think this is going to look a bit like the Ireland test. Very difficult for the top order, much less difficult for the late middle order. Good news for Jos... Stage 1 of the prediction seems to have gone well. Stage 2... we'll see.

Thing with Vince, and acknowledging his obvious flaws and 2016 failures, is he got his recent go in pretty much the toughest series going against the quickest bowlers going on pitches which were ideal for exposing his nick off issues, in the same series every other bat contributed similar levels of paucity so his dropping, given form shown in the CC and his last innings can still be considered harsh, and if everyone continues to contribute sack all then a recall could be on the cards

Not sure about the pitches point, one of the reasons given for his selection in the first place was that he'd be suited to a hard bouncy wicket. Quality of bowling obviously a fair point, but most of our series are against pretty good bowlers these days...

Switch to some medium pace seamers and offer it up on off stump, just wait for the tasty edges.

The Jonny Bairstow aerial flay over the off side is one of the truly great sights in cricket.

The Jonny Bairstow ‘yes yes yes’ is one of the great sounds too.

Can't help but feel England have borked their batting line-up here. They've got two of their best players in what statistically are probably their weakest spots in the order. Get that it's out of necessity as much as anything but reckon runs flowing from the bat of Root and Bairstow is far more important than fitting in Buttler somehow.

And by borked, it's all relative of course. Not exactly as if it was functioning brilliantly before...

One way or another, one suspects things are going to happen rather quickly now.

Good ball to YJB - looking back other than Root you can kind of argue the lads haven't been fully culpable

Don't think I've ever seen an innings with so much top-of-off clippage. #LineandLength and #SeamandNibble.
