So, if you get into debt as a county, the punishment will be incredibly punitive.
If only all the counties could get £1.3m an annum from somewhere...
Hmm.

Yes that was unfair, sorry (although I'm not quite sure why I'm apologising to you, you don't play for them ). But I'll be unable not to hope that Hampshire go down this coming season, like the should have done this going season. This is utter toss.

It's utterly insane. I understand the need for a deterrent, but this is crazy.
Even as a Hampshire fan I would rather Durham stayed up. A 48 point penalty and relegation!?

Obviously I differ in that I don't want Hampshire to go down - I much rather we proved that we do belong in the top division. I don't believe in wishing teams ill fortune because of external events. I am certainly hoping Durham will quickly return to Div 1 though.

I like to think I'm normally the same: however I really don't feel that Hampshire played like a Div. 1 team last season, and largely deserved relegation. This isn't their fault, but they have stayed up due to others' poor fortune, not dessert. And that makes a mockery of the quality of first div. cricket a little. I will try to remain unbiased, but I will find it hard. Alternatively, you can assume that I'm wishing every other team good fortune... apart from Surrey because Surrey. Meanwhile I hope that Durham win every competition they're eligible to. Artificially-created-underdogs.

talk about an over reaction....and I don't mean cricket fans in unison saying what the actual fuck. Any one of those punishments on their own would be seen as pretty harsh, but all together? Holy shit, like others have said, why not just demote the to minor counties now? The ECB have got 'blood' on their hands on this one too.

Kent must be sat there wondering why Hants and not them, I certainly think it would have been fairer to have an additional promotion with only one having gone up this year

I saw somebody posting that up on Cricinfo, Pierra (was it you?), and instantly agreed. However the fact remains that next season's points deduction or relegation should have been the punishment, not and.
Despite all the stuff I'm saying about Hampshire, let it not overshadow the real villains of the piece.
EDIT: Apparently Kent argued for exactly that, but the English Cricket Bastards disagreed.

Extremely harsh punishment from the ECB, hopefully Durham can recover from this and continue to win trophies and produce home-grown players.

The argument is that a) the competition rules say two down one up this year, and b) that it was the Division One sides which played Durham at a disadvantage (how much of a disadvantage is subjective of course). Hampshire staying up both keeps with the competition rules and mean that a team which (theoretically) was disadvantaged by Durham's financial help benefit, as I suppose in theory Hampshire might have beaten Durham if they hadn't had extra help.
Not the strongest argument, but its a better one than promoting Kent in this situation.
Anyway, I'm not sure what is wrong with just the points penalty. Starting Division One at -48 for Durham would have been tough enough without starting anything too controversial regarding which team plays in which division.

Apparently Sir Ian Botham will ride in on his white stead and rescue Durham, methinks they well and truly screwed if that happens

“I also fully endorse the support of ECB in helping one of its 18 first-class stakeholders to survive in the long-term and am satisfied that the sanctions imposed as a result of Durham’s circumstances are fair and have been well considered... I'm trying to treat Hampshire fairly but my goodness they're making it difficult for me. This completely discredits the previous sentence he comes out with. "Sorry, but not sorry, now ON WITH THE FIREWORKS!!!" Sod off Mr. Bransgrove. Also: this. We all believe the conspiracy theories we want to believe, just as Yorkshire supporters thought the ECB was screwing them over and I didn't. So, presented without further comment.
