Rosco's joined on the train as well. Shows you how lifeless this pitch is.

Kane Machine Williamson. Worra player. He will be spoken of in hushed tongues. Incidentally, Ross Taylor's tongue most definitely isn't hushed:

Congrats to Taylor on his double. It's a shame that they seem to have gutted the WACA, the number of surprised comments on Cricinfo when an edge falls safe.

falls for 290, shame. Kiwis still managed a useful lead of 65 and Warner is out early. Get smith out soon and the game might be there for winning.

Didn't know if this should be its own thread but Mitchell Johnson is retiring from international and first class cricket after this match, it has finally happened. Almost gonna miss the guy.
Hard as an England fan to compliment him after that Ashes but at his best his spells were ferocious. Also respect the guy for adopting the whole pantomime villain thing and running with it, rather than getting bogged down by crowd banter. A great little comeback story too.

I'll miss him, never mind the "almost". Whether he was uprooting batsmen with terrifying thunderbolts or slinging wides down at random, he was never dull. Not bad at them battings either. And him playing along with the pantomime villain routine was brilliant.
His sledging game needed work though.

That Haddin instagram thing is fake, been going round the internet. Quite amusing though.
As for Mitch J, not sure he's an all time great but he's certainly bowled some all time great spells. Absolutely irresistible on his day. Luckily for Aus, they seem to have a like for like (Mitch for Mitch?) replacement.

As a non English fan, don't think I'd ever call him great. Below average in the sub continent, especially India. Far too erratic whose career will be remembered for one purple patch starting in the 2013 ashes against a group of batsmen who basically gave up after the first game. A bowler who put the fear of God in batsman, yes Impact player, yes Great bowler, not at all.
But that should take nothing away from the fact that he was a very good bowler, who on his day was unplayable.
Will we see another bowler rule and get wickets through fear? I doubt it, my money is on Cummins or irfan

Anyone else pick Bucky in the Cricinfo poll? Presuming that the 13% who plumped for ShWatson are all non-Aussies...

A compelling first day so far. The ball has acted like any other ball just poor batting and good bowling. After nearly 1 full day I think they can say the experiment is working!

Booooooo. Kane had an off-game and the rest of the batsmen couldn't compensate. Even without Starc, fearsome bowling attack in their home country. Mitch Marsh looking irritatingly good too.

That's because they got to bowl more during night session when the ball was swinging around corners.
Also the only reason Australia didn't concede a 80 run lead was because of a drs howler from nigel llong
So don't even get me started on the game, I'm furious nz didn't level the series
