the pitch looks like a road, if Boult and Southee can make no inroads early on. Anyhoo at least Kiwis have the first wicket now. no 150-run opening partnership.

Huge day for Australia. I think most people expected them to bounce back at home after the Ashes. Well done to Khawaja for his maiden century, has been very average so far in Tests but this could be the jump he needed? Only thing I'm disappointed about is Joe Burns not going on to make a hundred. New Zealand will need another Williamson masterclass to not get skittled I fear.

Fear not Steadzz when Watling is there, along with Kane, Rosco and Baz

BJ Watling. What a player.
Grafters' XI anyone? Misbah to captain, Cook and Vijay to open, Watling behind the stumps.,.

New Zealand just used a review, and it had RTS and Hotspot.
So beautifully professional looking.

That Boult delivery to dismiss Smith was well worth staying up for.

Shame that nobody stuck around with Williamson. Kane, to my mind, is the best test batsman in the world.
Glad that Joe Burns got his maiden test hundred. He seemed like a nice, level headed guy when i met him a few years ago when he was at Leicestershire. New Zealand have it all to do, but I'm sure if any team in world cricket has the heart to pull back a seemingly unassailable position, it's the Kiwis. Anyone remember the test against India when BMac got a triple? Looked like an innings defeat but they survived. I'm not suggesting they'll win but I don't think a draw can be written off!

Steadzz I need no reminder of that thank you very much. But I agree Kane is streets above every other test batsman bar AB and certainly the best of the upcoming bunch across all formats and especially in tests

Agree that Kane is the best test batsman of the upcoming crop, he's technically flawless. Whenever he gets out it's always a surprise, I expect him to stay in the crease forever. Even the other three young stars don't have that feeling of invincibility. Add to that the fact that he's scored the majority of his test centuries overseas and against almost every full member. Reminds me of that Kimber article from earlier in the year that described him as an AI/cyborg, summed it up perfectly. Edit: The article in question - www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/880029.html

Some early rain in prospect tomo, otherwise, it is upto Baz if NZ are going to win this or lose this. Somehow U don't get the feeling this side will play for the draw given the target is within reach.

Neesham's ruled out of the rest of the series. Shame, I'd have loved to have seen him back in action.

Sob. Baz tried his hardest, but at the end of the day NZ didn't get the wickets they needed to.
