We've seen a few long term shoe-ins into any World XI retire over the last 12 months or so, so who would you pick for a match held tomorrow on a relatively neutral pitch? I'm just doing tests, but if anyone wants to do all formats then feel free.
1. Mohammed Hafeez (PAK) 2. David Warner (AUS) 3. Steve Smith (AUS) 4. Kane Williamson (NZL) 5. Joe Root (ENG) 6. AB De Villiers (RSA, wk) 7. Angelo Matthews (SRL) 8. Mitchell Johnson (AUS) 9. Yasir Shah (PAK) 10. Dale Steyn (RSA) 11. Trent Boult (NZL)
A few tough calls there, Cook and Jimmy could deserve a place, Amla, Morkel and a few others too.
An even tougher one is restricting yourself to one for each country, which obviously means including at least one associate player. Something like:
1. Tamim Iqbal (BAN) 2. Mohammed Hafeez (PAK) 3. Steve Smith (AUS) 4. AB De Villiers (RSA, wk) 5. Ed Joyce (IRE) 6. Sean Williams (ZIM) 7. Angelo Matthews (SRL) 8. Ravi Ashwin (IND) 9. Kemar Roach (WI) 10. James Anderson (ENG) 11. Trent Boult (NZL)
