One of the main problems currently facing cricket is that although teams tour other teams, there is absolutely no meaning to them aside from the Ashes. A lot of cricket, both ODI and Tests are being played simply for the sole purpose of making money. Although at least the No.1 test team gets a mace, it is so insignificant that they are better off not bothering. With this being the case, here is one way to make ODI series, especially ones happening between all the test nations right now, interesting. DO WHAT THE WOMEN ARE DOING
Take a look at this, and tell me, you don't want to see something similar happen in men's cricket.

Comic Sans aaaaargh. I think it's a fine idea, Sri, but India, England, and Australia might not qualify, and therefore it won't happen.

Why not? the top four automatically qualify and the bottom four will play the remaining six teams in qualifiers. Even if the top four is SA, NZ, SL and I know this is stretching it, Pakistan.
Aus, Ind and Eng will be in qualifying round and could all still play in the World Cup because there are six spots left, if you go by the current 10-team format.
The likes of Afghanistan and Ireland get to play against India and Australia and still have a shot at qualifying.
If not a 8-team group then perhaps a ten-team group with top five qualifying. whatever the numbers, you can still make it work.

Maybe with different numbers. I think that you'd have England quaking in their boots whatever the figures, though.

I know England fans are pessimistic, surely not this much? You seriously don't think England are a top eight ODI side?

Nah, that's a slight exaggeration. After all, even now that Bangladesh have overtaken them, there's still the WIndies. Honestly, they're probably pretty low down. Australia/New Zealand/South Africa/India/Pakistan/England/Sri Lanka/WIndies, without ranking the lovely Bangles.
