England have won back-to-back Ashes, 12-4 in England in 2013 and 10-8 in Australia the following year, can they make it three in a row? That is the task facing Charlotte Edwards, England's evergreen captain. Reigning World Cup winners Australia will be no pushovers and this thread is for discussing what's likely to be a far more competitive Ashes.

Very exciting time for womens sport in general. Should be a very close series, very likely to be Charlotte Edwards' final home Ashes series too. So i'm certain she'd like to win her last home ashes series.

I wouldn't put it past Charlotte to keep going for another few years. Anyways it should be good fun and I really like the points based system.

Very good start for England too! Kate Cross with a lovely wicket maiden!

Best part is that Cross is my favorite England player. Ever since I did a bit of research to do a story about her.

Cross is my favourite womens player too! Not going to say why though Good fightback from Elyse Perry & Alex Blackwell though, exactly what the Aussies needed!

I actually created a thread for this yesterday, but that was before I saw the format of the competition. The women's game needs more Tests, so what do they do with arguably the biggest Test in the game? Reduce its value to that of two T20s. I'll still follow the first four games (looks like Perry's destroying another attack as I type), but I don't care about the result of the competition any more.

Balladeer: Anyone who has followed Women's cricket for any length of time, will know that right now they need to get people interested first and then go about expanding all formats of the game. Hence why there are more ODIs and T20s which take less time than tests. Also the points tally was changed after the last series when the tests were given too much value and although England lost four matches, they were able to win the Ashes because the one-off test was given more points, hence it was modified to make it more fair so that the more matches you win, the more you are rewarded. I understand your hatred for T20 but it is the most marketable and accessible form of cricket right now and the one which should be used to get more girls into the game, before getting them to play tests.

They had a good idea with putting the Test in the middle of the series. That automatically absolves the "winning factor". England had the best of at least 5 days out of 8 (four days for a Test, one for each ODI, one for all three T20s) - that points system sounds fair to me.
I see your point on the T20s - at the same time, female cricketers want to play more Tests. I refuse to believe that there can't be a way to manage that.
Anyway, Perry is doing a Cook and watching her team collapse around her.

While I do think they should play more than one test, I like the current points system. Ideally I would have 3 matches across all three formats, but I don't think they do 3-match series so I'll settle for 2 tests, keeping the others the same.

Perry goes, and that's the innings, I reckon. What a player, though.

Been watching the latter half of the Australian innings and there's been a few run-outs and a near run-out, the England women have had pinpoint accuracy in hitting those stumps.
And a fourth run-out! Lovely throws.

Who's the women's fielding coach? Have they got any time spare to help the men's team?

Earlier, there were a couple of misfields and a dropped catch, looks like that was more down to nerves and once they have got their straps in, they've been magnificent.

Well, Healy did a good job in the last few overs. 239 sounds like it'll be a tought chase.
