That's a bit of a stuffing for Ireland, they'll be very hurt by this, don't think many people expected Namibia to come 2nd in that group, hell I didn't even think they'd come 3rd.

Not seen a worse day for Europe since the Ryder Cup a few weeks ago. SL bowlers having the Netherlands on toast. Or probably waffles.

Must say the SL seamers have impressed me enormously this week; I figured SL needed Hasaranga to do all the damage but the seamers are fast, nasty and have totally proved me wrong.

Very poor to not give Tendo a shout in his final professional match and a dead rubber (the only one in this stage, which is good!)
Something seriously wrong in the Dutch camp you wonder, as they've been pretty poor given the squad, would've said at least 30% chance of qualifying going into the tourney!

I imagine it's difficult to run the Dutch team because a lot of the guys who are the "normal" Dutch team get pushed out when Ten Doeschate, Ackermann, van der Merwe, van Meekeren and the other guys coming back from County Cricket are available.
Mind you, the Scots seem to handle that well enough - although I suppose it's only really Davey who misses much cricket?

What's interesting about Scotland's team is that the other three qualifiers all have a gun allrounder who'd make it into their team just batting or just bowling, and could easily make some much better squads:
Bangladesh have Shakib Al Hasan, pretty undeniably world class and he's shown it (20 & 2-17 vs Scotland in the loss, but 42 & 3-28 and 46 & 4-9 in the two wins). That puts him 3rd in the run charts and top of the wickets, and he's also got 2 POTMs, and +59 overall match impact from CricViz (next for Ban is +31, Mahmadullah)
Sri Lanka have Wanindu Hasaranga, yet to fully make his mark on the international stage but 39 @ 15.20, econ 6.39 in t20is and very good stats with bat and ball domestically. He POTM'd vs Ireland with 71 & 1-12, coupled with 2-24 vs Namibia and 3-9 vs Netherlands. That's the highest individual score from the qualifiers, and he's 5th for wickets, and top for dot balls (I think). His CricViz impact was +74, with Theekshana +59 and Kumara +38 also very strong.
Namibia have David Wiese, who we know can (or at least has) make the South Africa team. Just 6 & 0-11 in the loss to SL but has followed up with match winning 66* and 28* knocks, coupled with a combined 3-54. Highest batting average, highest SR for 25+ runs, and Namibia's most economical bowler. Again, tops the CricViz rankings with ease, +38 compared to a next best of +17 (Smit)
Scotland just don't seem to have that kind of player. Nobody has had positive CricViz scores in all three games, so they've kinda had different heroes each time, Berrington tops the list with +36 ahead of Davey's +19, but no stand out all rounder - not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing?! Namibia and Bangladesh both lost the games where their stars performed worse (not that 2-17 is bad...). Increased pressure on the gun players, but having one maybe reduces the chance of a team being blown away - we'll see how that plays out.

Davey was a top order bat when he first played for Scotland, he's just been wandering down the order ever since! Good point on all rounders in their side, they're a proper unit really with a lot of players around the same standard rather than a mix of the good and the not so good.

Dre Russ at 8 is quite the line up on paper. Could have had Narine at 9 for some serious late hitting (don't understand him not being in the squad!)
Unfortunately for them, it hasn't quite gone to plan...

He's not terrible at T20, but yes, West Indies are a little batting heavy. Russell at 8 is just silly.
Obviously the universe then made them put in an absolute stinker with the bat as a result.

Been trying to put together a side from the super 12 teams with no more than one player per team, a fun little challenge. So far I have:
Buttler (ENG) de Kock (RSA) Williamson (NZ) Maxwell (AUS) Shakib (BAN) Russell (WI) Wiese (NAM) Hasaranga (SL) Rashid Khan (AFG) Shaheen (PAK) Bumrah (IND)
12th: Wheal (SCO)
It's a bit spin heavy to put it mildly but struggling to find a better balance as Shakib, Hasaranga and Rashid are quite a bit better than other options from their team.

Between Shaheen Bumrah Russell and Wiese there's more than enough seam, and in the UAE even if there wasn't that'd be fine. That's a damn good side, although I might be tempted to pick somebody less likely to break over Russell with bowling options from three down. Anyway you'll be eating your words when Asalanka is player of the tourney.
