First ODI today featuring the Covid subs. Could be rather fun really, hope that a few grab their chance.

John Simpson, England international. I like that a lot.

I think the bowling line-up is pretty much as expected. The batting, though: Salt and Simpson. Well well!

I'm not one to exaggerate, but is Mahmood England's best white-ball player ever?

...clearly not, he's awful. Drop him.

YES! Won my bet, 10 quid on Pakistan to have a needless run out.....only made me 10p tho as the odds were shocking

24.3 overs it took for a "Mahmood for the Ashes" shout from Key. Only thing more certain than ruinous Pakistani running!

I'm not one to exaggerate, but is Mahmood England's best white-ball player ever? Never in doubt. Two drops off Parkinson now.

Absolutely incredible conversation on SKY just now, Nas and Isha discussing Malan's approach, wondering if his supposed lack of intent (45 off 47 as I type) could be seen as playing for a red inker and harm his future chances....incredulous after having watched Root and Morgan stroke it around at a SR of 80 in the last completed ODI against SL, don't remember it being discussed then!

He's still going at sur-100 SR in a chase of 141. I agree, that's bonkers.

That said, shocking stuff from him today.

I think the difficulty with Malan is the gap between his best and worst performances. Very much a mini Chris Gayle in that respect - he can do 80 off 45 but he can also do 11 off 20, especially against spin. Do you take that player or a Root type who'll give you a run a ball 50 more often that not? Honestly not sure.
He's definitely good enough, England just have so many options and bat so deep that there'll always be discussion.

If Malan's a budget Chris Gayle, is Phil Salt a budget Jason Roy?

A great opportunity for Lewis Gregory to show what he can do... that's the silver lining of it all going a bit wrong in the middle.
