What is it with England players and slippery floors?

Cricinfo predicts Broaderson for the opening Test.
Why would they do that? Why would anybody do that!?

Because they're our best bowlers and NZ are one of the best teams in the world.
All for bringing in new blood but alongside, not instead.

Counterpoint: this series has no greater impact, and if they don't rest one of Broaderson now then either one of the bowlers doesn't get a game this series, they drop both for the next Test, or they go in without a spinner.

They've gone in without a spinner.
I get your point, but I think NZ are a side that deserve the respect of the strongest team we can put out, and in a side already short of Stokes, Butter, Woakes and Bairstow, it's worth keeping the experience we do have. Rory Burns is the second most experienced player in the top seven.
Really looking forward to this. Love NZ and the way they play cricket - although imagine the fuss if England picked four naturalised South Africans - and think there's enough new faces in this England side to get excited about.
I guess the main thing is this might be the last time we see Broad and Anderson Vs Williamson and Taylor, and I'm going to bloody enjoy watching it.

They have done that. I hate it. Especially in this weather, and with NZ batting first, I think they've got thus.

Two well matched sides. NZ look a lot stronger with the bat mind. Spin could have been a genuine area of advantage for England and I'll always endorse picking Leach, but accept it is more difficult without a genuine all rounder. Real shame Moeen hasn't played any cricket, would have been the ideal 7 in the absence of Stokes.
But hey, cricket's on in front of a crowd at HQ. Book me in for five days on the sofa please.

And the ball! New ball is fine, but Robinson (unproven) and Wood vs. Wagner and Jamieson... No contest.
...oh, no Boult? Maybe pretty balanced then.

Not surprised with Conway's start, a really quality batsman. very talented & he's going to score a lot of test runs in the next few years.

He does look excellent, although the one from Wood that hit him will have perked up the ears of the pace merchants of the world

Well done Devon Conway.
Can't help thinking that it might have helped to field a spinner over one of the three fast-medium seamers...

Another one (similar to the day/night India tests) where we've fielded the wrong type of bowling attack. Conway's a truly class act. The first couple of short balls he was very awkward against, but that hook he played on the 3rd showed he can do it. fantastic innings.

Sometimes the other team just do better than you. I'm a big Jack Leach fan (you may have noticed) but don't think he's making a huge impact on Day 1.
Conway is just doing rather well here.

He's allowed to do well, and I'm also allowed to think that England still should have packe a proper spinner over one of Broaderson!
All seems to have been overshadowed rather. Does anyone know whether Ollie seems properly contrite, or whether it's a 'sorry I was caught' affair?
Anyway, we now get the exciting prospect of choosing between two racist seamers!

Having seen the tweets in qn I can certainly see why it's been called out, some very poor comments in there, the timing of it is a bloody disgrace tho, someomes obv been sat on them for a while and pulled the trigger when he's made his debut. Poor from the ECB,youd expect potential call ups would have their social media history looked over to flag stuff like this, likewise, on ORs part, once you make it, you know what you've posted in the past you go back and sort it out.
