Inevitable sure, but it wasn't dull at all!

Yeah last test felt like a cheap loss on a pitch so over engineered in India favour that it was pointless, this is a good old fashioned we're much better than you performance which is a lot easier to accept.

Yep. We've picked a fucking dumb team again, but there isn't a team we can pick where India aren't just better than us. Think we'll discover the same at home in a few months time, but might be quite a bit closer. Certainly looking forward to seeing if we'll go full green top against Bumrah, Shami, Siraj and Ishant.

Across this and the Sri Lanka series, we seem to have found new ball spin completely and utterly unplayable.

Pope being stumped means that it's now virtually impossible for the series aggregate of any other England batsman to pass the 218 Root made in the first innings of the first test.
Our batting numbers for this series, Root aside are truly miserable. Bairstow averages 7 - he's averaged over 34 for one calendar year of his test career and that was 2016. I can see what they were thinking putting him up the order but he really isn't a red ball player.

India v NZ at Lord's should be a bloody brilliant game.

The big winners of this series are presumably Sky. Pissing themselves they didn’t bother spending money on this.

Not sure many of us would have predicted a 3-1 loss before the series, 4-0 or 3-0 at best maybe, so winning a single test and then having India prepare some of the most one sided spin pitches possible to be sure of the win was not that bad in hindsight.
I can't agree in any way shape or form with the criticisms of the England rest and rotation policies, lazy pointless journalism usually finished off with a 'test cricket for England is the pinnacle, should do everything they can to play the game....'. Bottom line is a lot of these guys have been in and out of secure bubbles since July last year, they must be going absolutely insane and it's absolutely right that their wellbeing and mental health is the paramount consideration.

Couldn't agree more. Some absolute dinosaurs being wheeled out to say that the youth of today don't know they're born and don't care about test cricket today etc. etc. including several actual rebel tourists who clearly fancy winning an award for most unintentionally ironic comment.

I’ll third that. Clearly comes from old farts who think bad mental health is something you should just walk off.

Really looking forward to any one of the following happening:
- Bairstow hits 40 off 20 and people question why he didn't play like that during the test series - Roy hits a good score and people qn why he didn't play the tests - Rashid bowls well....same qn as above

What a series this is by the way. Dawid Malan very much showing off his budget Chris Gayle credentials, just the wrong side of that deal. Mark Wood quietly monstering it. Very enjoyable every game so far.

S Curran is shit too. Don't understand why either of them get a game in T20? Either play a proper bowler or a proper batsman, or someone who can do both....someone like Moeen Ali perhaps...... Jarrod Kimber did a really good assessment on Dawid Malan, interesting stuff in there, main one for me being how the ICC rankings very much over rate average compared to strike rate. That said, when you look at the stats Malan is pretty good on both, whereas Root who a lot of pundits seem to back has comparatively poor numbers in T20Is
