Enough to send Rikki Clarke into retirement with no regrets

Not that it matters much in the grand scheme of things (other than the inaugural Division 3 champions I suppose) but this Kent Middlesex game is turning into a thriller as well.

Congratulations to Warwickshire, a really solid team of solid players - Sibley, Yates, Rhodes, Hain, Lamb, Burgess, Woakes, Bresnan, Briggs, Miles and Norwell is a team that is workmanlike in the best possible sense of the term: no real stars (Woakes aside, but even he is the most "normal" of stars), just a lot of players who are at that perfect level just below international class that wins Championships.

Looks like this is gonna be a pretty damp follow up to that mad final couple of days of the CC. Kudos to Warwickshire though

That was quite funny. Especially for Yorkshire fans I imagine.

Based on the discussion in the other thread about how "good" or otherwise averaging 21 with the ball is in the CC these days, I pulled the numbers for the top 50 run scorers and wicket takers in the CC last season with the intention of seeing what "good looks like" (I may even write a blog if I can be bothered) in the County Champo. Here are a few early previews:
The top 50 batters had a mean batting average of 40.55 and a median of 38.68. Highest was Olly Pope's 78.27, lowest Will Rhodes 26.38.
The top 50 bowlers had a mean bowling average of 22.46 and a median of 22.22. Lowest was Sam Cook's 14.43, highest Matt Critchley's 38.44
Anything else you'd find interesting? Basically the entry point into being "good" is averaging high 30s with the bat, low 20s with the ball. Anything over 40 or under 20 is genuinely impressive.

Back to two divisions for 2022, based on the 2019 final standings. Harsh (but funny) on Notts, generous (and funny) for Northants. Probably best for the competition overall, I know people liked the early stages of the three groups thing but the latter stages were quite a lot less sensible.

at Notts. I'm sure they won't stay there. I'll be laughing a lot less when Joe Clarke is knocking Rushworth around for fun. Less impressed at the odd 10-8 split making the cut, presumably resulting in some lop-sided fixturing in Div 1 again.

Hate the 14 games thing so much. If two divs of 9 giving 16 games was too many, got to be some sort of 3x6 thing, suuuurely.
It's even more annoying having 14 games in the t20s, as you could literally solve that with every team having one matchday with two games (so everyone has one extra game at home and one away in a different double header). It's happened a few times before and been fine! Get Sky involved for a double header every Saturday & Sunday and job done.

Just waiting for the announcement that the County season from 2024 onwards will start in February, run through to the end of April then restart in October so we can have 5 months straight of T20, the 100 and whatever other whiteball piss around the ECB can concoct.
