Well that went okay. Nice to see Sibley in the runs in the trivial warm-up too.

Interesting headline on the BBC - England bowlers fail to fire.....I mean, you'd hope for better but on a pitch where we made 376/2 with 3 retirees, it does kind of suggest that it was a bit of a road

Sounds like the problem may be at least partially with the Kookaburra, which is more worrying.
15/11 EDIT: And the same again!

In the hope of jinxing it thoroughly, I really can't see any argument for Sam Curran being a test match third bowler and certainly not ahead of Woakes who is a better version of the same style of seamer.

Left-arm. They do basically the same thing but if Broad and Archer aren’t taking wickets then Woakes isn’t going to. Sam at least provides a different challenge.

Every time we do a 'who's in your England 11' I convince myself that Woakes > Curran, then reality seems to always hit down the line and I wonder why I ever questioned Curran.......DIfferent option, seems to make things happen so why the fudge not, got Broad, Archer and Stokes to wang it down right handed

I know that all the attention’s on the CC again, but this is about to start and I for one am excited to wake up and maybe not see that England have fallen apart in a session. Might be speaking too soon of course, but this batting order looks pretty good down to six at least.

Might be speaking too soon of course, but this batting order looks pretty good down to six at least. That is a very dangerous ball to be bowling before the game has even started. You'd best get a counter-reverse-jinx in quickly... er, Neil Wagner is really very good with the short ball and that will cause us problems for sure. That should do it. Could be a fun little series this, England have almost, almost managed to pick 11 players roughly in the correct batting positions and NZ are always an enjoyable opponent. Hope the pitch/ball combination doesn't leave it as slow, flat cricket after the new ball goes soft and the series is exciting throughout.

Odds for this test look interesting, both NZ and England just over evens and a draw a relatively long way out, seems the bookies can't really spilt who's favourite as admittedly I can't either. Whilst our batting looks more balanced than in a long time there are a fair few unknowns in there. I reckon, having seen pics of the pitch, that it could be a bowl first one with it being nice and green at the moment, but that of course could be misleading with a good surface beneath. Looking forwards to not seeing any live test cricket in the next couple of weeks as bed time with 2 kids is typically 10 o'clock!

I reckon that’s just everyone doing the whole ‘NZ are the plucky underdogs!’ thing and ignoring that they’re monstrous at home. I fully expect England to be unable to get anyone out and collapse under the scoreboard pressure, despite a few decent lone hands with the bat.
Pitch sounds like a slow road to me. Combined with the Kookaburra these are not good signs. Was hoping for some more British-style pitches, because even if the Kiwis then win at least the cricket moves on apace.
2-0 to New Zealand is my prediction, with Sibley doing just enough to stay in.

As the start of a new Test era, I'll take this. Root the only disappointment upon waking up and seeing the scorecard.
That said, this is a road and three quarters isn't it?
