We have two Tests (not part of the Test Championship) against NZ, followed by four Tests against SA. There are also three ODIs and seven T20s.
NZ should wipe the floor with an England side that's just about clinging onto victories. I'm predicting 2-0 unless the weather intervenes. SA, on the other hand... no AB, no Amla, bit of a crisis there. I'll say 2-2, but I wouldn't be surprised if England edged it. Depends how many of their fast bowlers break down, of course.
Let's start with NZ. There have been suggestions of resting Root for it, which seems like a good idea, and it might be a good idea to give Stokes some R&R as well. My team, depending on spinningness of the pitch and fitness, would be as follows:
Burns Sibley Denly Pope Buttler Foakes Curran Leach Archer Broad (c) Anderson
Squad would also include Northeast, Bairstow, Gregory, Porter, Wood, and Joverton/Stone depending on fitness. Not Woakes. His record overseas is abysmal and he hasn't set things alight this (red-ball) summer either.
Any thoughts?

That didn't take long!
I've heard a few times that these tests are not part of the world test championship. What nobody seems to have quite explained is why that is?

The England central contracts are a bit odd... Denly white-ball only?! Bairstow and Buttler perhaps fortunate to get Test ones. Plunkett misses out despite a big world cup
At some point ECB should really start separating ODI and t20 I feel, there are definitely t20 specialists who are average at 50 overs.

Also Tymal Mills who can’t play fifty overs but should probably be in any T20 plans.
I did find the Bairstow Test contract thing a bit discouraging. No mention of Foakes of course, whose recent form with the bat admittedly has not helped his/my case.

Squads being announced in the next 15 minutes. It's like they're trying to undermine coverage of the County Championship finale or something...

England IT20 squad:
Eoin Morgan (Middlesex) captain Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire) Tom Banton (Somerset) Sam Billings (Kent) Pat Brown (Worcestershire) Sam Curran (Surrey) Tom Curran (Surrey) Joe Denly (Kent) Lewis Gregory (Somerset) Chris Jordan (Sussex) Saqib Mahmood (Lancashire) Dawid Malan (Middlesex) Matt Parkinson (Lancashire) Adil Rashid (Yorkshire)
England Test squad:
Joe Root (Yorkshire) captain Jofra Archer (Sussex) Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire) Rory Burns (Surrey) Jos Buttler (Lancashire) Zak Crawley (Kent) Sam Curran (Surrey) Joe Denly (Kent) Jack Leach (Somerset) Saqib Mahmood (Lancashire) Matthew Parkinson (Lancashire) Ollie Pope (Surrey) Dominic Sibley (Warwickshire) Ben Stokes (Durham) Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)
Some odd things that stand out - Parkinson in the test squad is a surprise, and they've dropped Bairstow just after giving him a central contract. Like the look of the T20 squad a lot though!

Ben! BEEEEEEEN!
That aside, interesting good squad right there. Being Jonny in for SA, he’ll score three tons now that he’s been dropped.

Excited to see Saqib Mahmood in both squads and Banton in the T20 squad.

Only just clicked that foakes isn't in the squad.... That aside.... Burns, dibley, denly, root, stokes, Pope, butter, curran, archer, leach, Broad. I'll take that.

James Vince also in the t20 squad but weirdly left off the pictures they tweeted (perhaps to avoid a shitstorm but tbh I think he deserves chances in short form.
Matt Parkinson deserves a go but it's his t20 figures that are world class, so surprised to not see him there. Test I'm sure he'll do well, and can definitely argue he's in the top 2 English spinners. Same story with Mahmood tbh but he's in both.
Pleasant surprise to see so many uncapped/inexperienced players in though, should be a great series!

Silverwood gets the coaching gig. Seems reasonable to me, don't think he'll be particularly well positioned to tackle the structural issues of the game, but would expect him to at least understand the nature of the CC a little better than Bayliss as he was coaching in it not so long ago.

1-0 up we go in the T20, although we didn't get to see much of the exciting new players as Banton, Parkinson and Mahmood were left out and Gregory didn't bat or bowl. Would think everyone would get a go over five games though.

Does Lewis Gregory still have to pay subs if he doesn't bat or bowl?
