Div. 1:
Warks. vs. Essex (Edgbaston)
Som. vs. Yorks. (Taunton)
Hants. vs. Sur. (The Bowl)
Notts. vs. Kent (TB)
Div. 2:
Middx. vs. Dur. (Lord's)
Gloucs. vs. Sus. (Bristol)
Worcs. vs. Glam. (New Road)
Leics. vs. Northants. (Grace Road)
Lancs. vs. Derbs. (OT)
This is going up a bit in advance (matches start on the 10th) because this is potentially my last free-ish day before the start of the three final and crucial rounds. There is still everything to play for unless you're Lancashire or Nottinghamshire, or unless the rain intervenes because the games are being played in chuffing September.
In Division 1 the race for top spot couldn't be much closer. I mean, we all know Somerset are going to come second, but it's nice to have the illusion that they could topple Essex, right? Yorkshire should provide much tougher opposition than Warwickshire, but I suppose it depends how much home advantage counts for. Hampshire vs. Surrey should be a fun game. Notts. should be Kent given the calibre of their players but won't.
Meanwhile top half plays bottom half in Div. 2, but that includes teams like Middlesex Worcestershire and Sussex being in the bottom half. Everything could, and is still likely to, change.
Middlesex vs. Durham is obviously the most important match in this round because I'LL BE THERE! For only my third day of country cricket in person (and one was a Blast match so doesn't count). So will my cricket-indifferent girlfriend. Durham being above Middx. continues to amaze me, but if TRJ stays fit I fully expect that to change.
Meanwhile Sussex go up against second-placed Gloucestershire, but given Ollie Robinson anything could happen. Moeen hit a Blast century last night and it'd be good if his form translated into helping Worcestershire overcome a Test/Hundred ground, but then again Glammie have been rubbish for so long that not many would be unhappy if they did well. Grace Road will turn up a draw more likely than not and Lancashire will curbstomp Derbyshire.
Stuff the Ashes, this is where it's at. Into the home stretch now!
