Are we expecting to see potential Ashes starting 11 of Burns, Roy, Bairstow, Root, Stokes, Buttler, Mo, Woakes, Archer, Broad, Wood (assuming Anderson injured)?
Could potentially see Denly @3 I suppose, no idea what they'll do with the #3 position tbh

Hoping England mix it up for this test. Certainly suspect most of the world cup squad will be rested.
My choice:
Burns, Sibley, Roy, Vince, Denly, Foakes, SCurran, Gregory, Broad, JOverton, Leach

I’m expecting Burns, Roy, Denly, Root, and after that God knows as they rest people. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Sam in for Stokes and Moe instead of Leach. I think we’ll have to wait a while for Jofra’s debut: along with Boult he bowled two of the most exhausting overs in the world recently.
Right now I’m happy with the giving Roy a shot up the order. I’d think he’ll be grossly found out - if not, good for him. And I see that suggestion at 4, WaP. 🤨 He’s better at white ball and had a shocker at the WC. Back to county cricket for James for now. Northeast over him for my money.
For the Ashes I think we’ll see Burns, Roy, Denly, Root, Buttler, Stokes, Bairstow, Moe, Woakes, Jofra, Broad.
I’d pick Burns, Sibley, Bairstow, Root, Stokes, Buttler, BEN FOAKES, Curran, Woakes, Jofra, Leach.

England’s squad to face Ireland Joe Root (Yorkshire) captain Moeen Ali (Worcestershire) Jimmy Anderson (Lancashire) Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire) Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire) Rory Burns (Surrey) Sam Curran (Surrey) Joe Denly (Kent) Lewis Gregory (Somerset) Jack Leach (Somerset) Jason Roy (Surrey) Olly Stone (Warwickshire) Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)
13 man squad and a fascinating one - no Stokes, Archer or Buttler on WC rest, but two and a half spinners and six quicks in the squad.
1. Burns 2. Roy 3. Denly 4. Root 5. Bairstow 6. Ali 7. Curran 8. Woakes 9. Broad 10. Stone/Gregory/Leach 11. Anderson
That's er... not a batting line up to fill anyone with confidence. Although Gregory at 9 (ahead of Broad) would be very deep at least.
Delighted to see Lewis called up although I suspect he'll carry the drinks with Stone playing, unless he's there to cover Anderson (but would you really need Gregory, Woakes and Curran swinging the new ball?). Well deserved on performances, although I'm fairly sure Jamie Overton is the Somerset bowler who should be in the team.

Hmm. Nice to see Gregory and Stone in there, but Gregory looks like fast bowling cover. He could to be fair come in for anyone for Curran through Anderson with the exception of Stone, who covers a different base. I’m glad there’s an out-and-out pacer in the mix. I don’t think we’ll see Leach. I’d like them to rest one of Broaderson and play Curran Woakes Gregory Broaderson Stone. You could even play Leach there, Curran at 6, and have the world’s worst tail. They won’t though. AND WHERE THE HELL IS FOAKES

I'm looking forward to this. Test cricket, with a fresh looking team. Great stuff.

Jimmy out. That’s okay. Pretty much sensible in fact. One of Broaderson and the potential for all three newbies to play, as in my suggested line-up above.

One of them needed resting anyways, and Jimmy's bowled a fair bit in the champo this season anywho, shame Archer isn't fit, whilst those of us who have had him in our fantasy teams over the past few seasons know his capabilities, getting a game in whites before the ashes would've been handy one thinks

Lewis Gregory misses out, England playing two spinners.

Bugger. England win the toss. The main hope for a competitive game out of the window.

Classic Tim Murtagh wicket, playing outside off-stump is something Jason Roy will have to work on if he wants to flourish as a test opener.

Man opening in red ball cricket for first time in four years in looking thoroughly unsuited to it shock.
Nearly chopped on, plumb lbw to a no ball and caught at slip in two overs.
Roy is a fine player but this is an absolute hospital pass from the selectors.

In the end Burns only scored one more run than him, but he took distinctly more shine off the new ball!
