Interesting choice not to bowl Woakes first-up in these conditions. Or do I mean stupid?

I'm going to say you do. Still though, Smith in now and the game has formally begun.

I'd like to think my constant slagging off of broad over the past half a decade has contributed to this change in length and line....

He may be wicket less, but has totally dried up an end and almost immediately justified his selection. Nailed on for the rest of the series now.

Root now averages only 32 in his last 16 Tests. I know he's captain, but suspect even if he wasn't he'd still be undroppable even if he scored four ducks in tests 3 & 4. Shows the weakness of the England side at the moment

Okay, Stokes yelling in pure Geordie about being hit in the penis is quite entertaining.

Marnus Labuschange smashing test cricket like it's D2 county stuff, don't personally think he was out, but soft signal did for him.....cannot believe that he wasn't in the team to begin with. He's no Steve Smith, but he's better than the rest of them!

Tresco still doing his best for his country by making Roy doubtful for the Headingley game by knocking him on the head in training.
Like for like replacement really...

Cricket is a strange old game - the second most successful opener* of the four on show is about to be dropped. There's a strange allure to the attacking opening batsman that seems to make selectors cling to them for so much longer than they do to more traditional ones.

I very much approve of this new and improved Stuart Broad, and he is officially back on my Xmas card list. Full, making the batsman play....super
