Root has now dismissed Smith in two of his three double tons, so we're getting somewhere towards figuring him out...

The English 12th man playing a blinder here.
I’m usually a fan of getting out there and taking whatever comes to you, come rain or shine; but the Aussies have already been saved by rain once, and it would set up a cracking decider. That Steve Smith would ruin.

I'm going tomorrow, so I'd like to at least see a spirited England performance going some way to deserving the draw, rather than just three days of rain.

Lyon getting the biggest cheer of the day for safely gathering in a throw at the bowler's end. Tee and indeed hee.

Someone on Cricinfo just predicted a high-scoring bore draw and I can’t help wondering if they’ve ever seen England bat before.

Strong start. Archer removing all threat of him being rested for the fifth test. Crucial to get a few early wickets as now they can’t go all out for an early declaration, even if we can’t bowl them out quickly it’ll be less time to bat out

I'm reminded of sir vivs famous sledge to gavaskar.... Man it don't matter where you come in, the score is still 0

Went yesterday. Some very good bits, the opening spells from Archer and Broad were properly brilliant and Warner getting his first pair was enjoyable. For different reasons, watching Steve Smith work is quite something, even if he did get his lowest score of the series.
Hopefully we can show a bit of fight tomorrow but given the two men out I think I'd be happy if we managed to take it past tea.

Jason Roy has now been bowled 5 times in Tests this summer. Next most is 2, and Burns, Stokes & Denly haven't been bowled once.
This seems to imply that his technique might not be good enough for Test cricket. What a revelation that is!

Denly on the other hand seems to be gritting his way into a longer-term spot. Not sure if good thing or bad thing.
