I feel like Curran’s done enough. Presumably Willey plays tomorrow to help with that decision though.

Think he made that decision a bit easier! So, lads: who’s in your final squad?
I still think having a good leftie in the squad is important, but I struggle to think who I’d include Willey over in an actual team. Meanwhile goodness knows why Denly is still in consideration as the reserve spinner. The batsmen are easier, but Vince did a Vince again and probably isn’t a 100% pick.
I’d go:
Roy Jonny Root Morgan Buttler Stokes Woakes Moeen Curran Rashid Jofra
Vince Dawson Plunkett Wood
and bar Denly I think the selectors will too (squad not team). Willey vs. Plunkett was my biggest query and I’m still not sure I’ve made the right decision.

I reckon that (Balladeer) squad is spot on. Wood’s involvement is questionable given he’s bowled only a couple of overs per month since injury, but I think he’ll be picked and used carefully. Denly isn’t trusted by Morgan and imo was never going to be selected (no ODIs since 2009 prior to series). Willey’s a handy cricketer but has done less than Woakes & Curran and probably less explosive & game-changing than Plunkett.
Dawson for me is the 3rd best spinning all-rounder, exceptionally consistent in the OD Cup. Hants named a squad of 14 instead of 13 for today’s championship match, something they only ever do if they’re uncertain about someone’s availability => Dawson in squad if he doesn’t play today. I’m expecting him to get a few chances while I fear Vince has done enough to carry the drinks, but little more, unless there are dead rubbers towards the end. Regardless, Hampshire ideally need the pair for the cup final so I’m hoping they’re allowed to play!

Would agree with Balladeer's squad, although I'd put Plunkett in over Curran in the final XI for the damage he does in the middle overs.
Denly in ODI cricket reminds me a bit of Rashid in the tests: clearly the selectors want him in, but the captain has no trust in using him so there's no real point him playing.

Tough call, can make sensible arguments for and against anyone. I think Willey will be dropped, harshly imo but one of the things that counts against Willey for England is that he gets batted so low, for Yorks he's a genuine all rounder batting top 3 or 4 normally and can be explosive and rack up the runs. If you're batting at 8/9 or lower as he doe for England then he gets judged purely as a bowler, and at the moment the argument to put him over Plunkett is that he offers variation.

That variation was my consideration, as England has Jofra and Wood to whack it into the pitch - but then that’s not really what Plunkett does so much any more, is it? It’s all little cuttery things.
Anyway, amazingly we all seem to be pretty much aligned, and on quite a decent bowling attack no less! They’ll go around the park, but they’ll go around the park less than everyone else. I’m looking forward* to England vs. WI and records being smashed.

Australia win a tight match by 13 runs, hopefully the matches in the World Cup can follow suit.
