Fell away a bit at the end there. Still, at least Badger got some wickets.

Fabulous partnership between two youngsters, Pope and Jamie Smith on debut. Pope reminding people of his undoubted talent.

Seems rather absurb given the dearth of batting talent in the England squad that Pope is prob 2 injuries away from making the test team at the moment.

To be fair he had a go... and it's not like the dearth of batting talent is in 4-7 anyway, effectively 4-5 because Pope doesn't keep (really) or bowl. Root and Buttler are two of the most talented batsmen in the world, although they need to get their Test heads together, particularly Root.
If he played at 1-3 and wasn't getting a go (and was playing at his current level) then it would be rather absurd. Unfortunately Rory had another dud innings. The MCC's top three didn't brim with potential either.
NEXT DAY EDIT: Broad is on comms. talking up Notts. and it. Is. Sickening.

I don't hate that, I want to see a bunch of middle order batsmen up and down the division trying to prove themselves in the top three because that's where the vacancies are. Hope Hildreth and maybe even Abell have a go at making it work for Somerset.

yeah, fair play to them, give it a go and try prove yourself. Runs at 1/2/3 in the CC will not go unnoticed this year you've got to think

Ties in with my earlier post I suppose... Can’t help hoping that two players with a bit more grit make it, though.

Okay, not fully ready to go public yet, but would be great if you folks can sign up and let me know if anything isn't looking right. League Code XSEARIOI cricketxi.com/county-championship-2019/league/Let me know if you see any missing players or wildly out prices, I've tried fairly hard to get the list right! Nine teams signed up, one more for a nice even numbered league if anyone fancies it. Over 300 overall which is good, it usually gets busy the first week of the season so good to see people signing up earlier.

PREDICTIONS! Which I’m going to copy off the Guardian because lazy.
I can't see past Essex for the win. Cook, Browne, Ravi. Other Cook, Porter, Harmer. Really though, First Cook should win matches on his own. Surrey will push but not quite make it. Nottinghamshire will surprise people with their mid-table ignominy, because nicking (yes, nicking) a bunch of second division batsmen isn't actually the best recipe for first division success. Their bowlers will win matches though.
Relegation will be Kent. Hampshire will come 7th. They'll look like they could go down right up until the last round, but they won't. Because Hampshire.
Promotion... oh God, three of them? Well, I reckon Lancashire have the bowlers and the batsmen (tipping Keaton to play half-decently) to make first, but it'll be a struggle. Second place Worcs., because that is what they do. Daryl Mitchell will continue to be ignored by England and will do the whole Runs For Fun thing. Third place... I'm going to say Middlesex. I think they're too good not to go up this time around, although they do need to find some runs from somewhere. Sussex will lose out on the virtue of not having Jofra all season. Ollie Robinson will still average sub-20.
Durham will come seventh. Glamorgan to scrape the barrel.
GIVE ME YOURS.

Don't strongly disagree with any of the predictions, D2 promotion looks like 3 from 4, winners Surrey or Essex (although Somerset should benefit from playing a lot of cricket when spinners might actually be useful) and Kent look doomed.
Best hope for a D2 dark horse I think might be Leicestershire if Abbas goes absolutely ham and anyone else manages to be half decent. Not backing their batting though.
