A bit embarrassing for Ireland to be so heavily defeated in the semi-Final by a team that no longer has ODI status (OK, this isn't ODIs and The Netherlands did beat England, but...) I will have no dissing the dutch. They are awesome. Any team that ever had Dirk Nannes and Ten Doeschate are simply sublime. I am delighted for the Dutch. I have a match report in my library on the game that they played v Australia in 1953 in front of a crowd of over 5000.
Losing free-to-air cricket from the BBC has been a tragedy for Dutch cricket. And now the ECB has excluded them from Domestic competitions too. It's a pity: there is talent there.

I missed your late night anecdotes over the past few weeks. Anyways, if they do go for this three division structure, they need three more teams and those three might be Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands. seeing as none of the minor county sides are really knocking the door down.

I was only off-line for a week! If you can find it, the book is "The Ashes Crown the Year" (Pavillion Library) on the 1953 Australian tour. Written by Jack Fingleton. A fantastic read. It was re-released a few years ago. It must be available on Amazon.
The Dutch leg of the tour merits its own short chapter near the end.

I will certainly look it up It's well worth reading just to see how different a tour was then and now! The Australians played 33 county matches over 3 days (all the counties twice, save Glamorgan) and a multitude of Festival and other games, as well as 5 Tests.

Ireland finish third after the play-off with HK is washed out. Hopefully the rain stays away for the final and we'll get to see a winner.

Most people expected them to dominate, but they have had a couple of loses to teams that they would expect to beat 9 times out of 10.
