Presumably they were batting second though.
Still better than I expected, mind.

South Africa's first innings total in Sri Lanka were 124 and 126 so in that context, we might not be doing so bad. True....manner of the dismissals tho...Root doesn't even take that much of a risk when playing frigging white ball cricket!

The lower-middle order rescuing England’s ‘proper batsmen’ from utter ignominy... Where have I seen this before? 🤔

I'm loving that we seem to have found yet another player who excels at 6/7/8 to go with the other 6 or 7 players who excel in those positions

Jack Leach currently averaging 44 in test cricket. He really *is* the Taunton Vettori.

Fantastic knock from Foakes, England finally giving him a game.

Top comedy cricket from England. Top order blazes away and comes unstuck, lower-middle order does the same and gets all of the runs.

Foakes ton and 42-4. Not bad to wake up to.
That said, the senior pair are now in and looking comfortable.

Foakes having a great game behind the stumps as well. England's hilarious pile up of lower middle order batsmen who can keep or bowl continues.
Lankans all out for 203 with eight wickets for the spin triplets. Turns out England can actually bowl spin after all! 139 run lead on first innings, lovely stuff. Only concern is that Burns might be injured.
