Joe Denly out for a duck, good knock for Jennings and runs for Stokes and Curran.

Denly's leg spin also getting victimised a bit. Would like to see him do well, but can't help thinking he's just not at this level (as a first class average of 36 would rather suggest)

Also: second division.
Ten overs to go. Leach missed the entire first match and has only bowled eight so far. Hmm.

Would you like the list of English-qualified players who averaged more than Joe Denly (34.50 from 24 innings) in D2 last season? Of course you would... (min 5 innings to not be silly)
Ian Bell Matthew Lamb Zak Chappell Jonathan Trott Will Rhodes Ben Brown Chris Woakes Ben Slater Wayne Madsen Dom Sibley James Weighell Sam Hain Stevie Eskinazi Luis Reece Tim Ambrose
And in Division One?
Moeen Ali Ollie Pope Jason Roy Rory Burns Keaton Jennings Tom Kohler-Cadmore Johnny Bairstow James Hildreth Ben Slater (again!) Ravi Bopara Scott Borthwick Tom Abell James Vince Gary Ballance Alistair Cook Daryl Mitchell Ben Foakes
Funny old world.

Wicket for Leach, surely England will play three spinners.

I am sure that if Denly didn't bowl legpsin he wouldn't be in the squad.
Nothing against him, but not sure his batting justifies his spot.

Looking at that chart, I see immediately that Surrey have five lads up there. Five! That’s obscene! And we all (well, I) thought Borthwick was having a nothing season! (Warks. have six but two of those were Trott and Bell.) Granted, it’s probably not quite fair to equate the Oval and Canterbury, but there you go. Legspin and white ball runs > Champo performance. No Haseeb Hameed up there though. And at James Weighell.

So put the mortgage on a draw in the first test? Looking ridiculously unpromising just a day out from the start, god knows what the pitch will be like!

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/4607832441/58 for me. I maintain that it should have been 42, I got a shortening of an obscure name that wasn't given and I assumed I must have been wrong. 6 of them I'd never have gotten, ever, including 4 of the first 5.

Foakes and Burns likely to debut, with some rumours of Stokes and/or Ali in the top three. Well. I rather like the sound of that, shame it's going to rain all game.

The team being predicted is basically the team I wanted with Mitchell replaced by Keaton, and honestly that was never going to happen.
It would still have been ripped apart by Herath, though, leading them to bring in Broad for the second Test. Silver linings.

Not the ideal start to Rory’s Test career, it has to be said.

Good job my wife vetoed putting the mortgage on the draw.......piss around with the bowling line up all you like, still can't fucking bat, and most infuriatingly the bowling hasn't even been that good

South Africa's first innings total in Sri Lanka were 124 and 126 so in that context, we might not be doing so bad.
