Eh. It is what it is. They lost their best players this season, and their will to live the season before. I thought they might target mid-table, but it looks like it'll be a few years in the doldrums first. (I say 'first', if counties last that long...)
More annoyed about Middlesex to be honest.

Have Middlesex lost two pacers to injury in the same game?

James Hildreth, what a guy. Was dropped in the slips in his first over, but fair play, he batted well once he settled down. Hell of a pull shot, too.

Can’t be far off, career average 32 with bat and 29 with ball is class

Can’t be far off, career average 32 with bat and 29 with ball is class I was largely joking, although I imagine he'll get his chance. Honestly the last thing the English side needs is another rfm who can bat a bit. Even when Broaderson retire, I'd rather see (e.g.) Woakes and Porter taking their place. It's hard to argue with picking Porter in English conditions, given that he seems to be 'doing it' two seasons on the bounce.

I suspect if he carries on his form of the past 13 months, and adds some pace as he gets older and stronger that Coad could get a shot too

Yes, was thinking as I wrote that, Barnard is essentially just a statistically worse Chris Woakes, and England seem to have a habit of picking people who are decent at batting and bowling, rather than actually good at one/both. Decent doesn't get you quite cut it at test cricket - Moeen, Ansari, Jordan, Dawson, Rashid, Coverton, Curran all recent examples (not that I'm writing their careers off just yet!). Stokes borderline on this but he has cut it, admittedly. So I'd love a team full of specialists, definitely hopeful for Porter this summer! *I confess there are not a plethora of 'actually good' options at the minute

Think you can probably write Ansari off.

Would constitute cheating under the MCC Guidelines, I am pretty sure.
