Any further towards filling the holes in the team then? No? Of course not. The one decent choice broke his finger.

Some interesting seam bowling choices there, Chase and McCarthy both jettisoned after significant time investment in them. And Dockrell, but that's been more heavily expected with McBrine generally getting the nod.

Shadab Khan has a Michelle.
That’s not worrying at all.

Listening to the Surrey comms and Mark Church has a point - I reckon Burns hasn't made enough hundreds in the past to truly demand an England spot but it is odd he's seemingly never even been considered. The man hasn't even played for the Lions. I mean, Andrew Gale played for the Lions for God's sake. Everyone plays for the Lions. How has Burns not? Returning to this question, is it possible that there's always been someone more in-form or eye-catching when the selectors turned their heads? That doesn't explain the Lions but that does seem to be a bit weird anyway - Northeast barely played for them. I think he has been considered in the past, but has probably never been at the forefront of people's minds. Could now be the time?

Friday looks pretty dreadful and Saturday limited, but the Sunday/Monday/Tuesday much better, no?

Not quite where Ireland might have wanted to be from 159/6...
Still. Impressive Test average for Murtagh, that.

5-3 was definitely not the plan. Let’s hope they put up a decent fight after lunch

First innings a bit of a blowout but that happens to established test nations all the time. Looking a lot more solid in the second dig, hopefully on track to avoid the innings defeat at least.
