After much reflection I've decided to give the Hundred a chance to succeed. On one condition.
Absolutely no Danny Morrison. That's beyond the pale.

Draft tonight. The press all getting behind this as the ECB let them pick a mock draft for a dress rehearsal, which is very smart PR.
Think the first thing that stands out is a lot of very, very good cricketers aren't going to get picked up.

I'm looking forward to seeing if the teams are just going to pick well known players or will they go for left-field and less heralded players.

Looking forward to nothing about the 100. Holding the draft the same day as Liverpool man u another slight misjudgement too, add it to the list

Rather slow this draft, and it's really not helped by media training, everyone is evading questions on who should be picked and being happy with every pick. If you want to build some rivalries, you almost need a few players to slag eachother off and at least have some fun here.

Early odds have Southern Brave (4/1) favourites, Welsh Fire and Oval Invincibles up there too. Tbh I'd agree, in Russell, Archer they have some solo match winners and the likes of Rawlins, Whiteley, Jordan, Mills as destructive finishers in each innings. Looking forward to it getting started personally!

Zero backup too - admittedly using Wikipedia as their squad which is probably not quite right.

It's funny. In the three years (!) since this thread started, in the absence of any actual competition, I've softened a bit on the Hundred. I think mostly because cricket needs it to succeed - I think it's a totally unnecessary risk but one that if it fails does a lot of damage to the counties and the ECB.
Don't like how we got here but hope it's a massive success, especially on the women's side.
And, crucially, the cricket will be good.
Anyway. Squad announcements on the hour each hour today, starting with Manchester Originals, who released everyone from their original squad because it made their name ironic. New squad does look a lot better though.

First XIs courtesy of Ben Jones of Cricviz. Can't wait to watch most of those sides to be fair.
Think we (I!) probably need to separate dissatisfaction with how we got to this point from the competition itself, which should be bloody good.

Yep. Great squads, cheap tickets - if bums are indeed allowed on seats by then I'm sure it'll be a success, especially if we still get some on Free TV. Whether it should've happened is now out the window, because we're stuck with it for a few years at least!
Very surprised Babar Azam couldn't get a team - proven in England in all forms, I'd certainly have picked him over Warner this time around for the Brave.

Genuinely my least favourite active cricketer who’s not a sexist/predator. 😒

Perry? That's an offbeat one, is that just because she's upsettingly talented at everything and it's not really fair?
Her T20 record isn't *that* good compared to her everything-else record to be fair. She'll be great for the brand building, but I'd lay decent odds on her being the best player in the tournament. Quite like the look of London Spirit's overseas- Tryon and Dottin both give it an almighty whack.
