Every game's been close so far, dream start! Overall it's going about as well as it could have done - not a huge surprise as the strongest thing was always going to be the standard of cricket. Lots of shots in the crowd of kids loving it (and lots of Asian faces at Edgbaston tonight) - hope that's representative of the crowd and not just careful camera work.
It's difficult, I love the counties and want them to survive but there can be absolutely no doubt that some (not all) have embraced elitism, draw entirely from private schools and at the very best, don't attract Asian fans and players. I don't think the Hundred will solve that on it's own (not least because none of these sides have development teams etc.) but I hope it gives the counties a firm kick up the arse.
It's simply not acceptable that Yorkshire have one Asian player - who is now 33 years old - in a 30 man squad as per Wikipedia. Warwickshire debuted two Asian lads - Ashish Chakrapani and Manraj Johal this week - but otherwise have no Asian players on the staff, in two areas with enormous communities who are engaged with the game.
I've played recreational and league cricket for years now and the Asian participation rate - from all backgrounds, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Afghan - is damn near half of the people I've played with and against. It's maddening that they don't come through into professional cricket.
It's a less visually obvious issue, but the same about state school kids - someone pointed out that in the Oval men's squad yesterday, 8 of the 11 were privately educated. That's a very much overlapping problem. Hopefully the Hundred will generate the enthusiasm, now its over to the established cricket structures to develop them into players of the future. I truly hope they deliver.

46-5 at the half way stage
87 needed
"might go down to the wire this one"
Nice try commentary team. Couple of properly shit pitches over the last few days, really not going to help the tournament.
Adil Rashid and Rashid Khan on a turner is genuinely great to watch as an established cricket fan. Not sure it'll be bringing in the newbies!

Is it just me or has there been a pitch invader in every game?

Amusingly, considering that the KSL has been cancelled - play at Old Trafford prevented by Thunder and Lightning. And a Storm too. Weather names really was more British, I wonder if it's too late to consider a rebrand to the Trent Fog?

I still look at the scorecards on screen and it takes me about 20-30s to work out wtf is going on

Really enjoyed the pitch invader respectfully waiting for Benny Howell to catch/drop the ball before running onto the pitch. Only in cricket!
Probably still a distraction, but nice of him to try

One major plus for the Oval Invincibles is that they get to play the Spirit twice. A clear unfair advantage, that.

Good to see the reduced match length hasn't confused the BBC at all. (if the image is too small to read, it has the 4 southern brave bowlers on 1.7, 1.5, 0.3 & 0.4 overs, as well as expressing 19 balls gone as 3.4 instead of 19 balls, when it's been balls for every other hundred game. The weird ball numbers are because Dawson got injured, but still, 1.7 overs just looks nasty!
